Kill Switch

I have a 1988 toyota tercel which was running fine until last Sunday. I went out to start but nothing. I have lights. I was told by a mechanic that it is the kill switch. What is that and how do I find it? Is it hard to disengage? If not how do I do it? Thanks for any help.
