Not sure how in-depth you want to go with the repair, but here's some basic tips. Sand it down, clean the area really well with dish-soap to remove any wax, oils or grime. Do not apply any paint until the surface is flat and as close to "flawless" as you can get it. usually 220 grit sandpaper to get off the gunk follow by 400 or 600 grit will smooth it out nicely. If you're using the small bottle & brush touch-up paint make sure you apply thin coats only brushing in one direction. Give adequate drying time between coats, and very lightly sand with a very fine sandpaper between coats if it feels rough. MAKE SURE TO CLEAN THE SURFACE BETWEEN COATS!!! Do 3-4 coats. After 24 hours apply 1-2 coats of clearcoat. If you want it to be "nice and shiny" you'll want to use a quality rubbing/polishing compound after the clearcoat has had time to dry. That's the basics, but there is a lot more you can do, depending on how much time and patience you are willing to commit.
