Some people are so selfish... why?

Damn it, why are some people so selfish.. self-serving...narcissistic? I just don't understand. They do things only for their benefit and don't realize what they are doing is hurting people around them. Do any of you guys have an explaination for this? Is it b/c of their up bringing?

Sometimes people don't know that they're hurting anyone around them. Big distinction between those who unintentionally do that and the people like me who do it on purpose. :icon16:

That's my point. Why do some people not know they are hurting people around them. Is it b/c of up bringing, lack of character.. what?

Not everyone keeps others in mind. Sometimes all they do is see everything in their POV and can't see what they are doing can hurt others.

My best friend is selfish. After all I have done for him, he drops me at the ring of a girl he barely knows.

Some friend he is. Next time he gets drunk off his ass, I'm abandoning his ass on the street in the middle of the night.

I'm pretty selfish. I drive around by myself, I take all the toothpicks out of the restaurant, I leave my truck at the fuel islands and go shopping when I fuel up, I drive 1 mph slower than everyone else. I think about myself lots. I kick ass.

Some people just dont have souls. They are usually known as republicans. :D

Is it b/c of their up bringing? In some causes yes and no. I know people who are selfish as fuck. I know people who are not selfish. Both had normal (from what i seen up-bringings). It depends on what you call selfish also. Some people get selfish confused with being greedy.

Look at it from their perspective, they have NO idea what they're doing. If you slap them in the face and tell them off they're probably stop doing it (for a while)

That's exactly my point... why don't they know what they're doing? It's so obvious to us they are selfish, but they are comletley blind to it. So why are they so blind.... is it b/c they might have been spoiled as a child so they are used to getting their way
argh its so frustrating.

my example: i started smoking at 15 (ok a bit young but i've quit now) and we were always strapped for cash, few of us could really afford the habit. one guy, namely arjun sodhi, never had his own an to be slightly modest i see myself as reasonably generous, within limits and tolerances, so i was the one who gave everyone else a cig when they were skint. our system worked when you had a pack, you dished them out and sooner or later you get paid back when someone else gets their pack. now this one guy, arjun, he NEVER had any of his own, and being a sorta communist, i believed in good faith and equality, so i never hesitated to give him one (except when i had only a few left and it was a crap day) but when did he pay me back ? never the cunt never paid me back.

then once at bowling i bought him a burger cos he had no money and in good faith i trusted he'd pay me back. it was about £3/$6, ok so its practically nothing, except bearing in mind i was always skint and the money bought me lunch or a new pack of cigs. so im pissed cos he treats me like shit despite my good faith in others. now he has the cheek to always ask if i have any ! one day i will just flip and beat the shit outa him for the way he treats me, and i'll get the last laugh cos it'll be worth more than £3.

im not sure why people are selfish but i am self abosorbed and love myself. but never selfish. last night i was at the liquor store and bout myself a bottle and i bought my best friend a bottle of jack daniels just because hes my friend and im nice. selfish people suck. i can deal w/ cocky people and inconsiderate people because im both of those but im not selfish

I tried that with a friend of mine. Not cuz he was selfish but cuz he was stupid and he tried to piss out the back of my jeep while i was doing 50. he was that drunk and was seriously pissing people off. So I drove him 15 miles across town then dropped him 3 miles away from his house. He called the next afternoon and didn't remember that I'd left him in the middle of a bunch of self-storage lockers at 4:22 in the morning. He did remember waking up 4 miles away in some guy's front lawn. hehehe... I found it best not to tell him I left him. Moral? make sure he's sober enough to remember otherwise it kinda takes the sting away and they just think they had a drunken night.

I totally agree that everyone is selfish to a certain to degree. But what pushes some people to be extra selfish.... or be selfish to the extreme? It just boggles the mind sometimes that these people who are extremely selfish don't see what they are doing are hurting people around them. Often times the people who get hurt are the people closes to them ie family, close friends....

I put a lot of the blame on how people act on their upbringing/ parents. When babies are born they don't know anything. It's up to the parents to teach them what's wrong and right/values/morals. It's important to teach them at a young age b/c once a person gets older it's hard for them to change.

My brother's like that, no matter what you do for him, he always finds something to complain about and how you "NEVER" do anything for him......AND HE'S FLIPPING 24?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! I feel your pain, not exactly but I feel where your coming from. I feel if I have money and you dont i'll buy you some food if youre hungry. Next time when i'm broke and having money trouble...You can help me out (You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours...) But some people are just.........selfish lol
