Can anyone please help me with a little problem. I have an 04 alero 2.2 litre and when i am sitting at a stop light without the a/c on, the temp gauge starts to rise above normal operating temp, so i will turn on the a/c and the temp will come down. Is there a sensor or something that isnt kicking the other fan on or something, i really need anyones help, thank you.

Does it ever get into the red area or does the temp light come on? If I'm sitting in traffic, my 3.4 heats up a bit, but it has never set the light off. I've also noticed it takes a bit for the fans to kick on.

it has the 2.2 ecotec in it, and no it never has gotten into the red zone, i havent let it get ithat far, i was just wondering at what temp the other fan kicks on and puts it back down to normal operating temp? thanx for the reply. Am i going to damage it by letting the temp continue to climb?

If you would like my 2 cents, you could change your thermistat(sp) to a lower temp, that may help. Just a thought.

I wouldn't go too low though because if the car doesn't fully warm up, that can cause problems as well.

thanks everyone for all of their input, i just had it fixed by the dealer because it is still under factory warranty and they said that the #2 cooling fan motor shorted out causing it to overheat in traffic, so problem solved, im just glad its still under warranty because i wouldnt want to know what the bill would be for that, thanks everyone.
