Hi,

I have problem when I switch from 2WD to 4WD, the green light comes on but the car is always in 2WD; I have had problem because I was sure to drive safe in certai condition; someone can help me to find documents or suggestion about this problem?
I will leave soon the car on Kia dealer to investigate but they told me this is a broken part, I suspect this is a well known problem.

Thanks.

The vacuum hub problem is very well known, and this is probably the case . THere are several threads on this subject here. There are several causes:
- 1- the solenoid valve that applies vacuum to the hub is inoperating: this would be simple and easy to check: when the 4WD light is ON with engine running, then the solenoid is energized and you should see vacuum at the VACUUM TO HUB port.

-2- THen, if you have vacuum, it is probably leaking at the hubs anyway. Do not try to repair them. Change for Warn Manuals 60247 or Warn automechanical 61918. Aotomechanical come as a kit and for each wheel you have spindle nut, cam assembly, spindle lock, hub. INstructions for installation of automechanical:

-3- If you do not want to spend the money NOW and you want 4WD alsolutely now, then you can remove the hubs from the car, disassemble the hubs by first removing the C-clip, and take the parts out carefully and lay them out so you put them back precisely the samw...except when you remove the large spring, and then the piston, then put pack the spring in first, then the pīston, and all the other parts back in same order. THis will keep hte HUBS engaged at all time, but you still have the choice of 2WD or 4WD at the transfer case. THis means some more drag and fuel consumption however, because in 2WD, the front wheels will not be driven, but the front shafts and differential will rotate anyway.

If you have to change the hubs, have a check at the front wheel bearings...and if OK fill then up with grease . They are known to suck water because of leaky hubs .

If you go for the automechanical (that is what I have now and very happy with) , make sure with the seller that they provide the complete kit: I know someone ordered from Warn and got only the hubs, but then they recognized they goofed and provided the full kit. Someone on this forum bought from this link and was happy with the price:

I had also heard some other make of hub was made in Brazil I think and had been available in Europe at a time, but I do not know more details about that.
Also, be it the manual or the automatic, you will have to trim the hubcap because the new auto hubs are longer than the original and for the manual you need to access the knob anyway. I used a "dremmel" tool to make the cutout. Here are photos of the trimmed caps:
