Making of Ferrari Daytona 356GTB

Hello,
This is Italeri kit.
I make it little modern look, changed front bumper style, added fender flares, rear spoiler
and omit rear bumpers.
At first, I planned to do big modification on front section, engine hood and rear section.
but reconsidered to leave beautiful base body style.
even so I'm wondering some guys don't like what I'm doing to this. :rolleyes:

Front bumper and rear small spoiler are made from plastic stick.

After primed.
it needs more putty work on flares.

I already decided to paint it red.
I don't build any red cars since last summer. ok? :biggrin:

They are usually red but I realy like Daytona in Miami Vice style, black as a midnight. I made one in dark green long time ago but ok it is your choice, with red you can never go wrong.
I know it will be perfect in any colour.

Im thinking something bright paint. It brings all those details to life.

Uh, a customized Daytona.... Now that's something I wouldn't do in real life, but I'm looking forward to see how it'll look in scale :icon16:

This should be nice, red or yellow is the only way to go...

Its okay to modify an Italeri kit. Now if it was an Enthusiast kit, you would be in trouble. Seriously, the modifications look good, you have a good sense of what will work with the design. How about an orange color?

How do you go about making the fender flares? I've always tried to understand that with you car builders. They seem so perfect from start, or are these pics taken after heavy sanding?

those pics were took after several putty and sanding process.
it's not easy way. :p

This is going to look great. I especially like the little spoiler on the back! I don't know why, but something so small seems to make a huge difference (at least to my eyes....)

Ah this is gonna be another masterpiece!!

here're update pics.
tried to make interior carpet by putty.
dissolved Tamiya lacquer putty and spreaded to floor of interior.
then put rough cloth on it.

after that,
applied gray->white primers then painted it flat red.
center console is semi-gloss red.

Finished interior paint.
*Yellow meters. gauges are hand paint.
*Steering wheel is my junk part. used Museum Collection decal for emblem on horn button.
*Removed molded pedals and used junk parts.
*Shifter is Sakatsu's metal parts.
*Used sports seats from Aoshima's old kit. black prancing hoses are Virages decals.

God, the interior is FANTASTIC. Could you elaborate on that method with the putty? You mixed putty and thinner together so it was more mushy, flattened it out on the floor, and then ran a cloth over it for texture?

your english isn't quite as good as your modelling but it's close enough for me! I think it's just that the idea is so cool everyone will want to try it out - I know I will :)

Osamu - Great work as usual! Are you going to be doing the enigne as well? Do you have some particular detailing plans for it? ;) As you know I can't stay away from Engine detailing...

STUNNING engine... if I may suggest, I think you should offer your putty/cloth carpet method up for the tutorials section, it's GREAT. Kudos!

this might be a little late....

but have you checked the fitting of the lights at the front/side?
on my kit, it doesn't fit the space properly and some putty was needed to fill the gap on the body.

I take my ramark back, it is amazing in red ;)

metallic paints are Finisher's or Mr.color. flat aluminium and flat light gold are mixed by myself.
and used Tamiya flat black, metallic grey for washed paint.
