Lights Stay On - '92

Our 92's lights will stay on after the switch is turned off and the iginition is turned off. The only solution is to disconnect the battery. This only happens when the lights on for a while, not if they are turned on and off in a few mintues. Is the switch bad? Is there a way to add another switch to kill the lights and not hurt the rest of the electrical system?

I was just looking through all the threads and came across this one. I know this is really late in replying but maybe it will help someone else. My car is a 93 and it had the same problems. I had to replace the whole switch. Costly really about 90- 100 bucks

Maybe the "Twilight sentinel" switch?
My own killed my battery over night. The lights turn off, but there must be some closed circuit.

Thanks for the tip - I have suspected the switch. How hard is it to get at the switch? Do you have to pull the whole door pannel or can you pop it out? If you are popping the whole door panel, any tricks needed?

Thanks,
Tim

This sounds like the Light Control Module to me. It is located directly above the fuse box and is attached to the same plastic bracket that holds the fuse box. It is either brown or black in color most likely. It is a plastic "box" that is about 3 inches wide, 4-5 inches long, and 1 inch tall or so. It has two wiring harnesses connected to it. It can be pulled out of the bracket with force and jimmying. I paid $50 at a junk yard for one. As for my headlight switch, I also replaced that and it was about $40-50 at Advance Auto Parts (they had to order it). It was a major pain to get the door panel off and I ended up braking parts of my door panel because I did not know exactly how to remove everything. I do not recommend taking the door panel off until you find out exactly how to do it. (but yes, to change the switch you must remove the panel as it connects from the back and also bolts in if I remember correctly)
