Help with Tire selection

I've been looking around and kinda came down to two tires. The fuzion ZRI or the Potenza RE750. Does anyone have either of these?? how do they preform. I have Michelin XGT V4 tires, biggest peice of crap. Gave me a 2.4 60' at the track wth is that. I need something to get me back in to the 2.0-2.1 s. Any suggestions summer or all season doesn't matter to me. thanks. What has everyone else have and wat are there 60' times

This is what I run. Had trouble with tires breaking lose at around 35/40 MPH. Bought these, that stopped. Tires are high priced ($168.00, each). Only last 12,000 miles max. But if you want to get it to stick. This is your tire.

I'm in a similar situation. Having traction problems off the line with the crappy GoodYear Eagle GTs but stiil managed 0 - 60 ft times of 2.20 with the mods I have. With decent tires I should hopefully be able to pull high 13s for 1/4 mile ET. Best time to date 14.3 @ 96 mph last year.

Anyone out there have any experience or feedback on Nitto brand tires?
I've heard good things about them especially if going to 17" or 18" wheels. I'm seriously checking into the Nitto NT 450 or NT 555 Extreme.

I just installed The fuzion ZRI on my 16' rims and theyre great, offer very good handling and breaking response, another good point is that the produce low road noise. and their $$ than the potenzas.

Well I droped by fire stone and got there tires down to 130 a piece same as tirerack, they actually priced match them that was totally unexpected, never hurt to ask. So I think that i'm getting the 245/50/16 hopefully I won't have any problems with this size. Talked to a few people about it online and at Firestone and said it should be fine.

If you decide to get them could you let us know whether your 0 - 60 ft or 1/4 miles times improve and any other observations. Thanks.

Sure can, i can now just smash the gas pedal to the ground and the wheels only spin for a sec and then grab unlike before where they would smoke and burn out for like 3-4 sec lol. I'll be going to the track some time in the end of May. I'll give you some 60' times, i;ve talked to another guy that has the same tires and said he got a sub 2's in the 60'. See wats happens

The Dunlop 5000 have done the trick for me. The things I don't like about them is;
They will only last 12,000 or less.
When they are cold, (temp outside 65 or lower). they shake till they warm up.
When it rains, they are not worth a damn.
BUT, it's the only tire I have found that will stick to the road when I hit it. I only race on the street from zero to 55 MPH. (In Florida they will take your car for street racing). And these tires have done it well.
And they look good

Nice tires KustomKid54. Dunlop is a good possibility and I'll check into them. I run Dunlops on my Honda motorycle. What do you mean they're not worth a damn in the rain. As you already know we don't get much rain in West Texas but when it does it rains cats n dogs. :lol2:

Well I went to the track last night and did 5 runs. I pulled a constant 2.1XX for my 60' which i thought was alright but could be better. But the biggest thing that really stumps me is why am I only running 14.70 in the 1/4. I ran 2 14.70 and 2 14.8.. Seems slow for my car it has a borla exhaust and a SLP intake. Any ideas, the car does have 57k miles on it could it need a tune up?? any ideas. I would think this car would at least pull at 14.5 or better with these two mods. My grand am that I used to have pulled a 15.9 stock and I put a cold intake on it and it pulled a 15.6. Was kinda expecting about the same results on the grand prix...

Thats an improvement on the 0 - 60 ft times with the tires. How was your reaction time? Are you running a re-programmed ECU like the DHP v1.0 and what size supercharger pulley assuming its a GTP? :dunno:

I mean I don't like the stopping power in the rain.
Also, till they warm up, in the moring, they shake, for about the first mile or so. AND REMEMBER, THE MILEAGE YOU GET OUT OF THEM. 12,000 miles @ $160.00 a tire.
When I replace them, I will look for something new. A set of tires a year is a lot of money.
But they do work for the trouble I have, no traction .

I mentioned reaction time because I'm working on improving mine...lol. You need to seriously consider getting a DHP v1.0 ECU. It will help you take advantage of the Borla exhaust and CAI. The timing maps, advance curves, fuel injection maps, MAF maps are different and thats probably your bottleneck and reason for mediocre ETs. Plus consider a 3.4 supercharger pulley. I guarantee you'll see low 14s or even high 13s depending on the track conditions and weather. Plus add a 180 degree thermostat.

There is a phenomenom where the stock ECU can learn your mods and possibly negate or minimize mods unless you have a re-programmed ECU.

O... I got a steady .2-.3 reaction time zero being the best. I did pull a -.027 in one run haha... See i didn't want to put the pulley on just yet becuase of KR. Kinda looking into SLP headers right now.

Good reaction time. Good luck in improving your ET. I'm getting my good ole GTP ready for the strip and I'll post my new 0 - 60 ft and 1/4 mile time and trap speed later. Getting new tires with 17" aftermarket wheels.

Here's what I've got for comparison: Thrasher CAI, DHP v1.0 ECU, 3.4 SC pulley, 180 degree TS, u-bend delete, hi-flow CAT, throttle body spacer, Cold-Air Tuneable MAF. Last year ran a 14.3 @ 96 mph. Reaction time .35 sec and 0 60 ft = 2.2 sec. Altitude 4000 ft. A lot of traction problems but the new tires should help.

BTW - SLP headers are a good choice. :bigthumb:
