i have an 88 K5 blazer with a Tbi injected 350....my truck wont start when its cold out or if it hasnt run in a while with out starting fluid......after i get it started it runs fine and revs up when not under a load..but when its in drive i cant do more then a toe on the gas pedal or it sounds like it floods and has worse acceleration and bogs down and just wont go faster.....i changed the fuel filter and i have a newer fuel pump and i dont know what else it could be besides dirty injectors or something like that.

Check the injectors while running to see if they are dripping. This can cause flooding. They could even be dripping after you turn off the engine and loading the manifold with gas.

Check for a slight vacuum leak, typically between the intake manifold and one of the heads. It can cause your symptoms.

Did this problem just sudddenly start or did it things get worse over a period of time? Did you notice a slow loss of power over time? Have you noticed oil burning?
If it was gradual or is burning oil, then this might help.
I am a mechanic in the army and deal with deisel trucks that have ether assists to help starting in cold weather, big mistake because operators are idiots and over use it or don't know when to use it. Similar symptoms on your truck happen to military trucks. Anyways it sounds like the problem could be worn rings, it being an 88 i'm assuming with high miles. It will start after being run because the cylinder is hot and will help atomize the fuel, and will only start cold with starting fluid/ether because of lack of compression, it needs a more volitile fuel to ignite. ***CAUTION***: the more you use the starting fluid, the more you burn your rings really really really fast, and then it will become more dependant on the starting fluid/ether, thus maknig it a "crack baby". The lack of compression will greatly cause great loss of power. It is normal for it to run fine under no load because there is no resistance at the pistons forcing the compression around the rings. With all being said, try a compression test, this could tell you alot. I hope this explanation helps you understand things better.
Post an update and let us know if you found the problem, I am intersted in knowing what it is.
