That happened in mine as well... The problem is the cluster of wires underneath the back seat.(way too many to deal with without professional training). I said screw it and just bought an aftermarket stereo, amp, and subs & then i hooked the back door speakers to the factory amp.

Does anyone know what size amp is needed to replace the amp and subwoofer that comes in an explorer. I know the subwoofer is an 8" sub, but I have no clue as to what size amp is needed or will fit.

I depends on what you want. I have a speaker box put into the back of my 97 eb exp with 2 10" SV's and the amp I have is 250 watts per channel I did not have RCA outputs so we had to put a line drop in and connect it with the back door speakers at the plug into the stock radio my stock amp is built in with my reciever on the radio. It is suggested if it is a 4 ohm speaker no more than 210 watts, 8ohm not more than 250 watts. You can call the dealer they can tell you what they install.
