Gen 1 engine swaps

Hey everyone, I have a 89 dakota with a blown 3.9, was looking into swapping the engine out with a v-8. I know the 8's will match up and fit in with the 2 wheel drives, but how about the 4x4's ?
Anyone done an 8 swap in the 4x4's or have any good info to pass on?
Looking to getting started here soon so will check this out and if anyone has true facts and data send me a line to [email protected]. Thanks all
