Practical VR4

I have had an SL, and I am no stranger to sports cars. I was wondering if the VR4 would be a practical for everyday use. I'm not talking about communting, but like taking it out after work or dinner for a little stress relief on the local backroads. Would I be able to rely on it. the other cars on my list are the early NSX's and the Supra TT's. I know in the aftermarket and reliability sense these cars swamp the VR4, but I heard the VR4 was more practical with its set up. The Supra only has 10cu ft. of cargo room and the NSX 5. I heard the Vr4's and Supras get around 15-20 mpg average while NSX's can get 18-24. Supposedly Supras have bullet proof engines and so do the NSX and both don't require too much matinence. The NSX's aluminium paneling costs an arm and a leg to repair. I don't really street race or drag, but I do autocross and go out to tracks to run in the twisties. Freeway pick up is nice too. Then thing that attracts me to the VR4 is the AWD and the pure beauty with it. I have loved that thing since my dad put up a poster of one in the garage back in the early 90's. I loved them even more when I had my SL and AWD won my heart with my GSX the only problem I am wonderin about the VR4 is the gas mileage and the matinience I know if I take care of it it will take car of me, but I don't know about under driving everyday situations or frequent track use. So you think it can be done. Is it worht it over these other cars, or if you had the option would you rather have a NSX or Supra TT? I can get either of the 3, but I need help deciding. I plan to do heavy weight reduction though on the GT. Anyways thanks for your time and any info or comments.

I know you have asked about all 3 of these on the car comparison section, so I wont go into all the pros and cons of each...as I'd assume you are already familiar with them. However, the vr4 will probably be the cheapest to acquire, and I would consider it just as reliable as the other 2.

My vr4 is my daily driver, and has been fine. The only times it has been undrivable are
1) flat tires/busted rims...could happen to any car
2) temporarily lost 1st, 3rd, 5th, because I switched to an after-market BOV
3) Oil Cooler leak...had unusual delays and problems with ordering parts...could have happened to any car
4) Battery in alarm remote died and I couldn't get in the car

So my opinion is...if you mod the car alot, then yes there will be those times when something doesn't get put back together right, or you find yourself in need of a part and unable to drive...that happens with any car if you mod it.

Otherwise, I think it is just as reliable as either of the other two. And maintaince is the same as the others...they are sports cars...you need to spend more money and a bit more time to keep them in good condition.

If you've narrowed it down to those 3 and money isn't an issue, than I think you need to base your decision on which car you enjoy driving most.

My Spyder is my everyday car during the summer. Works just fine for nearly all occasions.

I get anywhere between 250 miles to a tank of gas to 350 if I just drive regularly (for me thats around 2,000 RPM. The engine is reliable and so is the transmission but its everythign else that seems to go wrong, but all little things like the power antenna, volume knob, speakers.... come to think of it most of the stuff that has gone wrong for me has been audio stuff lol.

I always get the best comments from you guys lol. I'm serious it takes forever for anyone in any of the other forums to give any useful info. Anyways Thanks for the comments, and like Igovert500 said, yeah I am kind of an indecisive person. I had another quetsion but I forgot it at the moment, I'll probably ask later. PS if yo ucould have any which would you have? Any Supra, early NSX, or 3000GT...just a little food for thought lol anyways thanks for the comments

I love my vr4, wouldn't trade it for either of them.

I had the choice between all the cars you mentioned as well as an M3 back in 94 and I chose the VR4 over all of them. Its a decision I don't regret in the least. (Though I did sell the 94 eighteen months ago)
