99 marked a new generation of mustang. the 99 and up are way better. they have more horsepower and torque and they look better, go with a 99 and up if you can. and dont buy a 98 or lower v6. they arent fast whatsoever. only 150hp. the 99 and up GT have 260hp, the 99-01 v6 have 190hp 220tq. the 02-04 v6 have 193hp 225tq. the best mustang however is the 2005

99 and up gt would be a good choice, cobra would be even better but that costs more... im not sure what prices exactly your lookin at but you should be able to find like a 2000 gt for 10k if u get a really good deal. idk check on kelly bluebook for those type of cars. as far as problems go, they are known to be pretty reliable, no problems i know of.

Go with a 1989 Foxbody mustang, but get the 302 v8, makes good horses and good torque stock, but make incredible horses and torque when modified. Go with 1986-1991 foxbody, you wont regret it.

96-98 Cobra are what I'd look at for newer Stangs. Better performance than a 99-up GT and they can be had for equal or less than many 99-04 GT's.

since its older it will require repair more often... plus i think hes looking at the newer body style

Age has nothing to do with how much work they will need it's all in the owner and how they take care of their ride none of my 3 fox bodies need excessive maintenance even the newest stangs will be expensive if you abuse them!

Yes, I mean, if i were to get one, thats what id get. I dont know what your talking about maint. Ive only had to do normal maint. to my 86 (IE: oil change, cleaning air filter, tires, belts.) Maybe if you buy one thats had abuse, but all you have to do is check it before you buy it.

And you still give it hell! Now thats a great car in my book. I think the previous owner of my '86 abused it a little but it never showed signs of it.

i was just thinkin that it will need repair more often than a new one... not necesarrily that it will break all the time

I know what you mean, most older cars get that but most of the time when ive heard about problems with fox bodies, they are normally somehow related to bad abuse.

Although the 99 and up 'stang all look real sharp, the 93 (i believe) and up are basically built on the same design, save the tail lights and side scoops. I could possibly be wrong but I believe the last year for the 5.0L V8 would be 1994. If the small changes really erk you, you could always find a way to change them, but nothing bets the rumble of a 5.0L V8...

It was 94 and up, 93 was foxbody still and yes, the 5.0 was from 1979-1995.
