Plymouth Valient

In the movie "Duel" the 1970 plymouth valient appeared to suck a fatty trucker peni. What is the real top end speed and acceleration stats. Or do they just suck, as portraited in this stupid piece of crap film.

His Valiant most likely had the 198 slant six, coupled with the 2.76 rear end through his torqueflite. It did accelerate slowly at highway speeds when floored, but got 25 mpg. Handled very good, though. Torsion bars.

I still think they just drove it slow. Just because you have a car with power doesn't mean you have to drive it like an idiot. That's the ricer mentality of these days...

I drove a "72 with a 225 (they bumped it up from the 198 in '71) and it was still an accelleration dog, but it was dependable. All of my siblings drove it (5 of us) , it was wrecked god knows how many times, and ti finally died in 1985 and had to be towed the junkyard. Can't say too much bad about them.

I attended Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga. The two years I was there we ran a 62 Valiant with a 225 slant 6 at El Mirage the best we did was 136 MPH. It had 3 40mm mikuni's and a Hooker header with a 4speed. It finished first in points for the 2 years I was there but was a few mph off of the record. It had to compete with the 260 ci V-8 fords! :eek7:
