k here is something that has been buging me for some time now i have a 97 cobra thats been supercharged, it has a 7lb procharger...got the car from a buddy of mine who was going through a messy divorce and it already had the procharger on it, now i love the car to death and with the 442rwhp you cant go wrong i pretty much defeat anyone who i encounter...the car is a show car and i only take it out everyother weekend or so but with the supercharger on it weather i got my foot in it or not its a major gas hog "but thats what you get with 442rwhp" i have looked into turbos and have always liked the idea of a turbo charged cobra even before i got the car. now my questions to you all is, just cruzing around town not hot roding the car would the gas mileage change if any witha turbo? what would be a good top of the line turbo to use? "im geting roughly 150ish hp from the supercharger would like to get at least that much or a little more from the turbo" and honistly how big of a head ache would the swap be such as financial? and if you have ever been under the hood of a 97 cobra you know how little space i have to work with so could i fit in a twin turbo system or find a way to mount a large single turbo were the procharger is mounted ect...? any ideas would be greatly appreciated. and like i said earlyer this isint a daily driver it is a show car so let the ideas fly!

Superchargers are more efficient with fuel when your foot is out of it. Ive also looked into turboing, but it just seems better to get a sc. Go with a 12 pound pulley and try the power out of that!

The only turbo experiance I have is with a cummin's turbo diesil in a Dodge. It gets good milage and good power but its not a v8 or gas, so I dont know how well this carries over. I have been toying around with the idea of a turbo on my 200 but the whole thing would have to be fab'ed. I've always heard its better on milage but I cant say for sure

I dont understand how a supercharger is better on gas when ur not on the throttle? when u let off the blow off valve releases all the extra air left in the pipes? i dont see your point...im not trying to be a dick just asking why?

Superchargers kick in at a certain point. You can adjust pulleys and such so it hits an earlier rpm, but mostly it hits around the same. Turbos spike a heck of a lot more, and its a lot easier to run partial boost on a turbo. Superchargers have less heat inside them and this prevents some detonation from happening. If the fuel is atomizing before it hits the chamber, less power is produced thus making you put your foot into it more. its gets more into it, and frankly im too tired.

well thanks for the explenation!
so why do a majority of ppl go with turbos it seems?

actually its superchargers. When they choose turbos they can upgrade certain things a lot more. Like turbine, boost controller, blow off valve, wastegate. versus: pulley and boost controller. In the end the turbo power dominates. i just saw one of these yest! ran mid 11s and fully streetable. he got 14 mpg also.

21mpg is granny driving :) Any time you boost (turbo or s/c) you are going to lose mileage......Any time.....repeat ANY TIME!
734hp, with a 12 sec 1/4 to back it up :D

i know that but if u need to drive somewhere or whatever u can baby it and get great gas mileage.
he runs faster than 12 seconds in th quarter

I dunno about u guys but if i had 734hp i DEFINATELY would not be gettin 21 mpg. Id have my foot in it all the time. Well 14 is prob with boosting a lot and speeding.

Gotta love them dyno queens, 700 HP would be 10's in a 'Stang.
Wanna keep your mileage period? Nitrous. Just don't hit it.
Turbo will beat an S/C on mileage if you stay out of the throttle, or run a G-valve and crank your boost down for street driving. Spool happens on throttle input, not RPM input.
Turbos spike only if they are poorly chosen or poorly controlled. Same with lag. If you properly choose your turbo on a V8, lag will be nil. The heat and detonation is addressed by using a properly sized (read: as big as will physically fit in the car) intercooler, or maybe methanol/alcohol injection.
How well is the thing tuned? Probly not too bad, pretty good numbers for 7 lbs.
TT or even a single turbo on a DOHC 4.6 is gonna be pricey, and a huge PITA to run the pipes. Most likely your turbos will be in the fenderwells when all's said and done.
Keep in mind an 8 cyl is gonna get sub-15 MPG no matter what size or power adder if you are in the throttle a lot. Mine has gotten as little as 12 MPG N/A.
