Ok, where'd that thread go? I'm back to eat crow concerning my responses. You guys sounded like you had the facts so I went to the dealer at lunch and looked into the low tire sensor thing in the wheels. I was wrong on my reply...the low pressure sensing through the ABS was a few years back. I left the dealership in 2001.

I had never heard of such a dumb idea, but i shouldn't have put it past them to dream it up. There ARE sensors inside the wheel at the base of the valve stems that need to be swapped over when changing wheels, just like you said. My buddy said rotating your own tires at home for the normal Joe is a thing of the past, as the system needs to be relearned after the tire position has changed. Who would have thunk it?

Anyway, my sincere apologies for sounding like a know-it-all. :screwy: I was off base, and should have checked my facts before making such an absolute statement.

Newer style trucks with low tire monitors. Guess my '02 Tahoe had it and I didn't even know it.

All I know is someone put 20's on their truck and the light was on. He was told that he needed to take the sensors out of his old wheels and put them in his new wheels. I thought that was the silliest thing I ever heard, but I guess you learn something new everyday.

Guess if I don't know something for a fact, I'm better off keeping my mouth shut.

Talking to my neighbor, a master mechanic for Toyota, a few of the newer Toyota models actually use the ABS sensors.

That's the way GM USED to do it, and that's what I was familiar with, but the times they are a changin'.
