1992 2.3 Quad 4 Electronics Problem

Hi All,

I just picked up a 1992 Grand AM for my wife. The car runs great, but I can't clear the check engine light and it has some "quirks." that lead me to believe all the probs are all related.

Check engine gives code 41, (cam position), check oil light comes off and on, ABS light comes off and on, and last, but not least, the doors will lock all by themselves randomly if the car is running. This is odd since the doors are only suppposed to lock when the car is in motion.

I have replaced the cam sensor and the oil pressure sender with no luck.

The car runs great and is not giving any physical signs of a problem.

Any help is appreciated.

Gil

Assuming the cam hasn't gone off time I'd check the wiring to the sensors and the computer. May be a bad connection or a faulty ground. The car is old enough to have enough oxidation and corrosion to cause some problems.

Thanks, I'll check tonight. The car runs great, so I doubt the cam has gone off time. I already checked the wiring to the ignition module under the Quad Four cover. I assume the computer is under the dash on the passenger side???

Hey everyone,

The problem was the Ignition Module was bad. Ten minutes work and $87.00 and it is made whole again........

Thanks for the help,
