AJ-Modelworks goes Pro Touring

Thought I'd have a go a some pro touring projects (although I don't know too much about it - I suppose like all other automotive styles there are no rules except the unwritten ones ! so I'll apologise now if I transgress any. Here's where I am so far:
Revell 69 Yenko Camaro
http://members.aol.com/jonesandy898/pro.jpg
Smoothed the body by sanding off all the emblems etc - since I took the pic I've also sanded off the ridge on the hood for a smoother look. Rims are from the Aoshima Kunny's chaser with Revell Civic tyres.
Engine will be stock but I'll use the valvecovers and aircleaner from the Testors Smoother kit.
Revell 67 Chevelle
http://members.aol.com/jonesandy898/pro1.jpg
Rims are Kranze LX's with SAS Advan tyres - engine is from the AMT Wagonrod.
Revell 65 Mustang
http://members.aol.com/jonesandy898/pro2.jpg
Rims are Aoshima Lowenharts with Junction Scara Rims and SAS Advan tyres. Engine will be stock except for MCG Edelbrock dress up kit.
Just spraying the bodies up at the mo as we're blessed with a fine bank holiday - hopefully post pics later. I may swap the rims around between the Mustang & the Chevelle - I'll see which ones I prefer once they're painted up.
Thanks for looking

Great tuning.
Sometimes I wish it would be that easy and cheap to tune cars in real life :D
Well done.

Again, these cars are more like "whips" than "pro-tourers." I guess in modeling there are no real rules, but I have yet to see anything I'd really call pro-touring. They're all beautiful cars, but I just can't get into the ridiculously large wheels on old muscle cars look. Those are some fantastic paint jobs, though. In the Chevelle, is that a TPI engine? I'm not familiar with the AMT Wagonrod....
I'm totally jealous of your painting skills though.

It's been cleared but needs polishing out as I put some fairly heavy coats of clear on it & there's some orange peel.

These are totaly Pro Touring style! Modern drive train + modern interior bits + large rollers and modern mettalic pain and big modern engines = Pro Tourer!
These are great!!! Please keep us posted and please let us know how you plan on lowering the Chevelle and Mustang suspension? They both ride pretty darn high and I had a huge problem with the Chevelle... mostly because of the over-simplified one piece front suspension.

AMT's Is Nice But A Bit Under Scale,The Revell Looks Much Nicer And In Perfect Scale

I wouldn't say he has it nailed. The modern suspension and modern engine is a start but people go overkill on the wheels. Pro-touring = 17 maybe 18 in wheels. Most models (due to lack of choice since there is no middle ground) have 20+in wheels. No one here has nailed "pro-touring." The models look awesome however and yes the engine is a LT5 which is specific enough as it was only offered in the 90-95 ZR1's and it is a TPI based motor.
William
**Edit** 375hp isn't necessarily wrong, the LT5 didn't get 405 hp till the later models of the ZR1. It started with 375.

I never said build them the way i want...Build for yourself or you'll stop having fun. I'm just saying pro-touring hasn't been nailed and probably wont till the HUGE wheel trend is over.

Change of plan on the Mustang engine - I've decided to use the Ford Motorsport SVO from the Revell Speedwagon kit - the Ford emblems and lettering were acheived by covering them with Bare Metal Foil and then painting satin black & matt blue enamels over the top. When the paint had dried it was removed from the raised areas with a matchstick.

Just a quick update - I've polished out the paint on the Chevelle & Camaro and done a bit more on the engine for the Mustang (just sparkplug wiring & exhausts added). Interiors on the Mustang & Camaro will just be simple semi-gloss/matt black but on the Chevelle I'll do purple inserts on the seats & door panels. Wheels on the Chevelle are from Pegasus with Scale Auto Style Advan tyres (narrower than Aoshima 19" tyres so they fit within the wheelarches).

Yea i'm not sure when i'll get around to finishing the camaro...I kinda lost interest. I'll finish it eventually...
Like Kat said with the semester coming to an end i'll probably go back to playing GT4 since i'll have it again and might work on a few models over summer but we'll have to wait and see. I've never really built models consistently just every now and then. Right now i'm actually working on a early 90s F150 with a few lightning parts and smoothed body.
William
Also so this stays on topic the cars look good, paint came out nicely!

Just a couple of pics of the Chevelle with the interior completed and the suspension built. Decided to go with these wheels as the Pegasus ones made the ride heeight too high. They're Aoshima Luxy type 4 rims with Junction Sara lips on SAS Advan tyres.
