Today I just pulled my travel trailer out of winter storage. I have never towed anything with the truck I have now, and I havent yet installed a brake contoller, however when I plugged the trailer into the truck, and tapped the brake pedal to check lights, the trailer brakes clicked like they were working. I didnt tow it down the road, just out of the back yard.
I dont have much experience in this, but I thought you had to have a brake controller to make the trailer brakes work. :dunno:

you probably have full 12 volts going to the brakes. This would cause a lot of brake action on the trailer. The controller lowers the voltage and can also add a small delay of application for control purposes.
