any probs with 22's on a silvy

has anyone had any problems puttin 22x9's on a silvy with 305-40-22 kuhmo tires?? they seem like they would be fine. if any one knows of probs let me know any rubbing or mods needed to fit these. thanks

Well, other than they look kinda dumb...

You should be fine as long as your running stock suspension. If you're gonna drop it i'd recommend a 35 series or smaller depending on the drop. You may have to trim a bit, but it should be fine.

I don't think 22's look stupid. They actually fill up the fenderwell nicely. Anything bigger looks kinda dumb.

i agree with 355F1: 22s are about as big as you can go with a truck to keep a clean look. but also use a 35 series tire 40s might rub a bit after a drop.

I have heard before that if you run more than 20" wheels that you need to upgrade the brakes. But I am not sure if this applies to trucks. Any thoughts?

thanks for all the responses. i hope they work out good. i am not gonna drop it at all. i need the clearence for hauling and driving wherever i go. i still use it for alot of things, just tired of the stock 16's. they look tiny on these trucks. also how do i post pics on this forum. i have never done it before and not sure what to do? thanks

Yeah, going to a bigger rim/tread you're gonna need to upgrade the brakes too.

I know this is a FAIRLY LATE response; however, I have a '04 Silverado on 305/40/22's with a 2/3 inch drop. I still have about 2 inches or so of clearance left up front and about 2-3 left in the back. The only prob is when I make sharp turns, my tires rub what appears to be the torsion bar up front. 305/40/22's are just a tad bigger than the factory rims and their HUGE ass tires.

Unless your truck is 4wd you do not have torsion bars, you have control arms. That's a big tire so I'm not surprised you rub. How big are your rims?

My truck had 20x9 with 275/40s, before that I had 275/35s and they didn't rub. I would suggest a smaller tire.

As for the upgraded brakes, yeah you could always use more brakes. Thats just a fact of life. As for dropping the suspension, I dont buy it. Yes you are adding more weight for the bigger wheels (and yes I know its unsprung weight, which is not good weight to add). You are going up in size but losing sidewall in the tire. I ran 305/50R20's on my silvy for nearly two years and didnt notice much or if all loss in braking performance. The added weight of the wheel is compensated for the loss in weight of the tire, not completly but its there. Right now im running 35's and 20's and yes the brake performance isnt quite what it used to be, but still slows me down in a hurry. And my tires run 80lbs a piece. twice as much as stock. Run factory brakes buddy, youll be fine.

22's will fit i have 305-40-22 and they have no problems. i had 45 series tires and had a little rubbing. all i did was use a heat gun to push back the plastic inner fenders a little bit.
