Tinted windows

What is the % that the rear windows are tinted on the blazer from the factory? I want to tint the front windows to match the rear ones, but I don't know what percentage I need to get! Thanks in advance!

I put 25% on my front windows and it matches nicely. It looks the same from the inside too.

I have 4% ghost tint put on all of my windows, over the stock tint that came with the vehicle, looks very nice on my truck even though i can not see out of my windows

Considerable safety hazard that will have you sued and charged if you cause an accident.

Yeah, probably a pretty bad idea, but I have it for functionality, I live in southern Florida and it stays so hot in my truck without tint its terrible.

Is it functional when you can see the car you pull in front of and they end your life?

Yeah but a lot of cars come with sensors that tell you when you're about to run over something. Maybe he can install some cameras and lcd monitors... Who needs windows?

I know this kid who tinted his windshield, that must be the stupidest thing ever. A police officer in MI told me to take them off when I was putting them on in a parking lot, but then I pointed to my NY plates and he said it was ok.

I think my tints are illegal in NY too. I want to get a doctors note, because when I do night driving my eyes would kill if I didn't have them... I make a lot of long trips at night and I would get huge headaches from people driving behind me.

Hope you are joking.

I know for a fact that Florida doesn't put up with over tinted windows.

NY requires 70 or 72% light transmission on front side window. The "stock" tint on most vehicles all ready meets that minimum so ANY tint added will make it illegal.

Thanks guys for the info! I am pretty sure it was 35%.

So if I put 35% on my front windows it will be legal in NY? What about NC?

I think any tint on your front windows (other than factory) would be illegal. I've had mine for over a year with no police encounters, but now I'm contemplating taking them off because I don't want the hassle.

ANY aditional tint on your front windows will make it illegal in NY. I'm going to get mine done anyway but with just a minimal %. I want to soften the change from the back to the front.

The NC laws may not be different.

Do you go to RIT in Rochester NY by any chance?

I grew up in Rochester NY. I'm actually going back in a few days before I go to Orlando for the summer. I have a few friends at RIT, they have sweet apartments there.

Maybe we'll have to make some sort of s-series gathering where we fix all of our vehicles...

most police won't pull you over just for having tinted front windows, but better safe than sorry. I already got rear ended in my 96 blazer once (last week, actually), and I probably could have avoided it if the tinted windows in back weren't so dark. I think chevy only tints them like that because it looks cool. Without the tint in back, the blazer looks so much like a minivan it kind of defeats the purpose.

My rear tint was dark stock from the factory.

If anyone rear ends you, it is there fault, not yours.

I bought a my 02 Xtreme from Florida and I live in NY. The front windows had been tinted by the previous owner to match the factory tint on the side windows and the rear window. At my driver's ED. course a local police officer came in to speak, after class I had him come and look at my car and he said that the tint on the driver and passanger windows was legal in NY. Hope this helps you out. Peace-

35% is legal here in MD, but the front windows have a little bit of tint in the glass so even if you put 35% on them its illegal. On the back windows it can be as dark as you want. My front windows are 20% now. The only time i ever got bothered is when i had 5%.

This is the problem with LEO's in NY - In NY the dark tint is absoultly illeagal. Unfortunatly the LEO's use theirhighly skilled judgement instead of refering to the laws as they are written. Believe me - you may not get pulled over for your windows but give them any other reason and they'll be more than happy to ticket you for the tint. I've ask several LEO's and Tint shops and yes the tint is NOT legal in NY. But like anything esle the laws are all subject to the individual mood of the officer.

I understand this all too well. But when I've asked other officers they say the general test is that if it is night out, and they take their flashlight (standard police issue maglight) and hold it up to the window, if they can see the entire passenger/driver area then it is legal. If they can't see in there then it isn't legal. I've asked several cops about my tint and they all say it is legal. The only way you're gonna get in trouble for a tint like I have is if you're doing something stupid like racing or running from the cops, in those cases the cops will take a fine-toothed comb over your car and give you a ticket for every little thing that isn't legal. If you're overly worried about whats legal and whats not, call either the state police (non-emergency number) and ask, the DOT, or DMV. Also, you will have a hard time getting an illegal tint installed at a shop unless you really want it. -Peace

I would just roll down the windows as fast as possible so the cops don't have to see them. It seems like everyone has tints on down here in FL.

Another thing, be considerate of the 5's weather you like em or not. If you have tinted windows regardless if you think they're dark or not, roll your windows down before they walk up to the car. I know one thing, and thats if I was a cop I wouldn't want to have to walk up to a car and not know if someone was pointing a glock in my face from behind the darked-out windows that I can't see through. Just my 2 cents. -Peace

I know for a fact that the factory tint on a blazer is not 35% (atleast i think i'm sure) but on my 98 my dad tinted my front windows for a birthday present and he got 35% like a big retard. But i can highly tell that it is not near as dark as the factory tint in the rear. I think it is some where around 20%.

Wow thats pretty expensive for me, I was hoping maybe like $30. Would it look ok to do it myself and just buy the tint from an auto store? Or should I just spend extra to get it professionally done?

I've never done it by myself so I couldn't tell you, might be worth a shot though, it will save you money.

i would spend the extra dough and have it profesionally done. tint from shops usually come with a warranty so they are covered if they crack, peel, or discolor. me and a friend tried to tint the front windows of his caviler with, get this, walmart tint. we were fighting it all the way and when we finished, it look horible so we tore it off and he had a shop do it.
