not worth it unless ur really into the sound competition thing - too much money and work that seems pointless to me

i've been thinking about doing it on my car but it will suck because u cant see out the back behind you. so i'm gonna make the whole back a sub box laying down. its gonna be awesome when its done and i'll be sure to post pics :)

don't get me wrong, a great body shakin bass beat is great. However, when the only thing u hear is bass, it just sux. if u want to go into competitions, then yeah all u really care about is the bass, but if it's for a daily system, don't do it unless u got an equally powerful mid and high range too.

on a side note, there really is no point at all of a loud system if u rn't gonna be using it for competitions. u'll damage u'r hearing and it ain't any fun. i know this from my own personal hearing degrading. i never worked around loud machinery and i did have a loud system at one time. now i'm just going w/ quality not quantity.

There's a guy on a local forum that did it in his vehicle (not sure if it was a car or SUV, only had pics of the interior). But it looked pretty nice the way he did it. And he only did it for sound competitions (since you he can't see out of the back window anymore).

I did a subwall in my car.

It hits pretty good ! I dont have any recent or good pics since my camera is being repaired.

not to be a dick, but that is really rediculous. the sub is like, right in your ear. and you cant see out the back. and i bet it weighs like 150 pounds.

i dont know what kinda money you have to spend but there are some brands out there that are good enough to give you that sound and bass that you want with out all the work and b.s. if you would want my help on brands just ask . quality over quantity any day i had 4 12's in a camaro it sounded loud thats it just loud . i now have 2 10's in my prelude it sounds better then my camaro any day but its your money and do what you want .

i think your spacebar is sticking lol...

so you want a wall of subs because the back is all messed up? hmm maybe you should look at fiberglassing it that'd look a lot sweeter and you could still see out the back ^_^ if you're gonna spend that much on a big box and subs spend a lil more get some fiberglass and make it show quality

but then again i come to the same question, why are you doing it seriously just to make it loud or to actually listen to the music?

complete waste if you ask me. i am also one to-iterate what has already been said. my ears are fucked up, cost doesnt justify the means, unless you are doing comps, which you arent, i know, its more than likely illegal so be prepared for tickets, and having a wall of subs will sound like shit. i had 2 speakers and 2 subs in my crx and i trial-and-errored for months before i had the perfect balance of highs, mids, and lows to where people would actually tell me that i had the best sounding system they ever heard.

ok listen up let me totally clearify. the wall is mroel iek a half wall and it will only be as high as the bottom of the back window there for beign able to see otu the back. and 2 i want some loudness yes and some quality sound. also i dont have any trunk space what so ever so it also acts as part of a trunk.

i don't like the wall of subs idea.

i aimed at a balance between sound quality, moderate volume, and affordability.

i haven't gotten around to adding insulation anywhere yet. other things need to be dealt with first when i get the money.

i've got just run of the mill speakers in the doors, some supposedly "competition" 6x9's in small trapezoid boxes in the back, alongsite a 250W rms 1000W peak 10" infinity 1020W speaker in a box that's, honestly a bit too large, but the only thing sub $60 that i could find. it's powered by a 300Wrms 1000W peak Rockford Fosgate Punch amp. the speaker was a steal on ebay. brand new $50. can't find a CRAP speaker for that price these days. the amp was a steal too, though i can't recall how much i spent. it was barely half of what Best Buy sold it for, though. i got the stereo version of the amp and simply bridged the 2 channels.

now i wish i'd gone with 2 10's instead of one. perhaps i'll find another 1020W or a pair of something else, but while one 10 does fill in a great deal of low end, i don't feel like i have quite the headroom i need in some music.

the wiring kit used was a simple one from walmart. i never buy expensive wiring for anything. a wire is a wire. this one was like 4 gauge. frikkin huge. i could run a second amp on the splitter that came with it with ease.

so, in the future i imagine i'll find a box that fits the back better, a second 10" and maybe some sort of inexpensive version of dynamat.

I will tell you that for a driver, wall of subs sucks. Woofer noise (you know, just the sound of it moving and not making music) is hard to deal with. Plus, it takes so much more money to work the front stage so it's balanced out. Otherwise, all you hear is bass with muddled vocals. Not too impressive in my book.

Put my new in-dash DVD and watching movies with a sub wall is just plain awesome. As for terms of SQ I still won first place for SQ in the last sound competition I was in. Sure it adds a little weight but who cares. I like the fact I can turn it up louder than I can stand it with no distortion. How many systems are out there that you can hear the damn woofer bottoming out and no mid or upper range.

i know some home owners insurance companies will cover your car if it is in the drive way . but i dont know if all of them are like that or what.

Nope, you are wrong. Yes I know I talk all about car audio and own my own shop but I am also a licensed insurance agent. No home owners policies are designed to cover anything on an auto. The only extreme case might be something like if your house caught fire and ashes messed up someone's car parked close. Seriously, if home owners ins. would cover shit on autos or autos themselves, why have auto insurance???

Also, almost all insurance companies will cover aftermarket items but you must state what you have, have receipts, pictures, and even appraisal. Then, you'll have to pay extra for the coverage. It use to be that anything permenately attached to the car was covered but too many thefts are going on without extra premiums for the shit being ripped. So, when some Jack is crying that his insurance sucks because they won't cover his $3k chain store cracker jack system it's really because the idiot didn't tell the insurance company about his ride.

Now, most insurance companies still will cover aftermarket stereo items if they are located in the OEM mounting areas but even that is starting to change a bit. :banghead:

.....No home owners policies are designed to cover anything on an auto. ......

You are quite wrong....atleast in BC you are, because my Home owners insurance covered stuff stolen from my car, like my 200 cd wallet....my deductable was $500 cdn.....but my 200 cds were more then $2000 to replace.

Also here, auto insurace will cover everything in the vehicle, you just need to specify what you have and have paperwork to prove it.

So back to the topic... The wall of woofers is pretty sweet, just not too practical for daily driving.

well i would like ot agree with you it is sweet but im jsut gonna do liek a half wall. also if i ever did a full wall the top of it would have a small window to see how the back.

Last thing here. You have it all wrong. In auto-insurance, there are no provisions for "loose items" such as Cd's, clothes, coats, wallets, purses or any other personal items. All of that falls under home-owners or renters. In your scenario, you never stated anything related to your car, just personal items. It would be simular if someone broke into your home and stole your Cd's. Or even if you went on vacation and all your luggage and belongings were stolen. It would be a home-owner policy that would pay.

Now, if your car got broke into and your 200 cd's were stolen along with your stereo, ground effects, leather coat, and CD changer your ground effects, changer, and stereo would be under the car's coverage while the cd's and coat would be under your home owners. That really sucks because you'll have two deductables to work with.

I had a wall of (8) Kicker C-12 12" woofers in a '91 Geo Storm from 1992-94. They were powered by 2 Orignal Crunch CR600's (made by Zed Audio). Back in the early 90's in my area, that car was untouchable in SPL. Sure, it was super loud and provided lots of deep window rattling, alarm setting off, and people pissing off bass but in the long run, it hurt my car. How? Well, my brakes weren't as effective due to the added weight, the suspension wore out waaaay to early, and I must have been working the drive train, engine and collant systems harder than I needed to. In short, it looks cool but won't be cool when it comes to maintaining your car with the added burden. I have an old picture somewhere around the house if you'd like me to e-mail it to you.
