I've been thinking about getting some new blue on black guages but hte price and horrorstories about midnight haze have deterred me. I just found some extreemly similar guages on ebay for considerably less, heres a link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7970565178&category=43952.
Does anyone know how hard it is to install them? My dad just put me back on an allowance of $10 a day till I get a summer job :icon16:.

A friend put ones that are like a cover on top of the original, he told me that the main gauges speed/tach are easier to take off
but for the other 3 you have to take the instrument panel out.Anyway This should answer all your questions, the best site i've ever seen for our cars on the maintenance side.

Btw i think i remember seeing it somewhere ...if you try the ones that will make you remove the original you have to be carefull cos you'll have to take the neddles out and make sure put them back correctly, but my friend just got the ones that are like a face on top of the original.
I've never done it nor heard the details so i may be wrong, but the link will definitely help ya .
Chris.
forget it ,I just red the add on ebay and says that you don't need to remove neddles ... great!!, should be easier then, they looks good I 'd get them too sometime in the future .
Do us a favor don't forget to write your input and comments when you get it done, and pics or even better a small video, gl bro.

Its not just a lay over type, they actually replace the gauges and lighting, it says that you don't have to take apart the needles.
Edit: And yea, if I decide to do it I'll make a thread or edit this one or somthing, I always make a writeup with pics and stuff even though no one ever seems to care .
Where on 316 is the write up? I couldent find it.

Heh yea I know, its because he dosent want me taking all my mom's money (for food and such) like I've been doing so he's willing to pay me off lol.
Does andyone know how long it would take to install the three gauge faces? Poeople have said you have to take apart the dash but how long would it take do you think?

Yea I figured youd say that lol, I think I will but I want to get a new CD changer and passenger sideview mirror first. Does anyone know where I can get one that eliminates the front pre-cat and has two flex sections but dosent eliminate the main cat? I could just have ESP (local VR4 shop) make one up I guess but I wanna know if there is anything cheeper.

it took me a few days to get the center gauges out.. an that was maybe 3 hrs each day. the main cluster is easy to get out. the gauges ur lookin at on ebay, i got my gauges from the same guy.

i came up with an easier way to remove the center gauges. remove glove box, head unit, the a/c unit, center vent, and the main cluster. most already know that, but once thats done its still a pain to get to the screws. so what i did is removed the long bracket that supports that center air duct. and removed the screw from the other bracket an just moved that to the side. then there is a screw way up in the center air duct. i used a bunch of extensions to reach it an removed that(never put it back in either :) ) then u can pull that center air duct to the right. but it takes some force and the duct that connects tot he right of it will get flattened out. once thats done its easy to remove the screws and remove the center gauges.. just remember its gonna take a little time to get that duct connecting to the right back to bein a square tube so that it goes back on it. u could get the center gauges out in a day. putting them back in position is harder than takin them out.. but putin the glove box an everything else back on is easier. u could prolly get them out an back in , in a day as well...

Ohh you've got the reverse glow ones, I like the blue on black ones that I linked to better, are the ones you have overlays or replacements.

I think these ones actually replace the regular ones entirely.

thats not hard to do.. just take out the bulbs when u do it.. but in my opinion, why go through all that to get the center gauges out and then they will still be black? during the day there wont be much of a difference.. just the color of the numbers.
