I have a rod knocking in my 99 Intrepid 2.7 engine. I have an opportunity to buy a 3.3 from a Dodge Caravan. Can anyone tell me whether those two engines are interchangable? What do I need from under the hood ie: computer, wiring harness, etc.

I posted this question on the Dodge forum and didn't get a response. Hoping I would get a responce here.

Thanks, jfc

These engines are not interchangable. The caravans 3.3 engint is transverse with the transmission. The Intrepieds is longitudenal with the trans. Two diffenernt things.

In first generation Intrepid's, they ran a 3.3 liter, 1998-2004, they had the 2.7 liter. Bizzy102 is right, it's not going to work, if you had a '97 Intrepid, then yes, same motor just needs mods to the intake manifold. Depends on how much money you have available but there are a few options you have: 1) find another 2.7 liter and stick it in their; either rebuilt, brand new, or used [personally, I wouldn't go used, it could be in worse shape then your engine currently is] 2) Get a 3.2/3.5 liter motor and stick that in there. You'll need to do some mods as well, like reposition your A/C compressor, power steering pump, you'll need a new computer and that should work for you.

You can use the 2.7 computer with the 3.2/3.5 conversion.I have done it this way with no check engine light on after hearing it run.Tha radatior is differant too.The 3.2/3.5 radatior has oil lines going to the radatior,The 3.2/3.5 throttle cable is longer and the heater hoses are differant too.I have ran into this too.If you replce the computer with a new one,you do not have to go to the dealer. The Mastertech scan tool from Vetronix will program and burn the vin in the new computer. Here is Vetronix's website, www.vetronix.com
