Raced a fellow AF/PH member lately...? ;)

This is a good one. I'm calling it about even given the situation/circumstances. Last night I was hanging out with a few fellow friends, who happen to be old PH members (Legacycivic, LegacyTRD if you guys remember them, and also Jaron95) and so Jaron95 and myself were headed back home. We had to take the same route to get to the freeway, although we parted ways from there. Along the way, we came upon a red light that didn't turn when we approached it. We threw eachother a couple revs just for fun. Before I get into the events, I'll give you all a little bit of some spec rundowns. I drive an '00 Civic DX coupe auto tranny, (D16 engine, just intake for now, blah, blah...) Jaron drives a 5-speed '92 Si hatch back, with a '94 D16Z6 motor in it, his old Si motor died on him a bunch of weeks ago due to pisspoor upkeep by the previous owner, and since he needed a new motor ASAP, a B16 swap wasn't really an option, being low for cash at the time.

So anyways, when the light turned green, I torque launched my coupe at around 2300 RPM, but unable to get much wheel spin due to the crappy asphault we were on, but I still got a hard launch, I got up to about 35-40mph, before I realized I was passing Jaron up, so thinking he wasn't bitting the bait, I let off the gas to fall back with him, all the sudden, as I let off, I hear his engine rev, as he begins to pick up speed, and pass me. "It's ON!" I think to myself. So as his front bumper is passing mine, I floor the gas as far as it'll go, and my car kicks down back to 2nd, and wails away up the powerband of 2nd gear. I ride it up to at least 60mph before it upshifts to 3rd.

What was odd, was this was the first time ever I think I got my car to hit the rev limiter. I had it in D4, so I wasn't doing any stupid crazy shifting, but when the car got up to 6300 RPM as my tach was indicating to me, it passed that mark that I have set for redline, and rode between that and 6500 RPM, and then for a second or two, the needle seemed to float a little within a few hundred RPMs, right around then I felt my steering begin to flat too, it was almost as if my car was "floating" over the ground. As that all started happening, I looked down at my cluster, and saw I was doing about 70, so I forfit and cut the race off, only because you never know where a cop might be hidding, esp. at 2am in the morning. When I shut it down, and let off the gas, Jaron was about a car length and a half ahead of me. His car surprisingly pulls quite nice for what it is, I'm pretty impressed.

Since it wasn't a complete start from stop race, it was kind of an uneven match. With our current motors, I'd say we'd be about equal at the finish. Just for the age of my motor, verses his, and then keeping in mind that he has a hatch and a 5-speed, that would bring him about where I'm at, if not a tad quicker. He only has intake so far right now too, performance wise. Anywho, thought I'd share that interesting experience of racing a fellow member with you all. :) Even with his current engine, he's a fast driver, and hard to keep up with sometimes, with the right music pouring out the speakers, some people are just uncatchable. ;) :D It's weird, yet funny how that works...

Good race man. Where's Jaron been, and what does he drive now? He still yearning for a white hatch?

What's up, d00d? Jaron's around, and on here as well, he just posts like once a month... :bloated:

Anyways though, as you might remember, he used to have a white '00 DX hatch, and he got a B16 swap into it, but before he could fully enjoy it, or even stretch it's legs on the new motor, the car died a sad, crunched death at the "hands" of a light post, when some blind old man ran him off the raod in his jalopie. :( He was out of commision for a few months, until he found himself a nice, decent charcoal gray '92 Si hatchback. Everything was well with it, till it decided to blow a head gasket, both CV boots, and numorous other problems that sprouted up all at once. He was able to track down a decently used (73,000 miles on it) '94 D16Z6 motor, and then have the old one swapped out for the "new" one. He's had that motor for about a month now. So far things are good, other than an odd idle problem that popped up this past saturday.

Thats sweet! There are only a few members that I could race from AF. I could race Snowboarder in his Toyota 4 Runner I think it is, not too much of a challenge, KBSalcker but he lives a good hour or so away, and Nuetrino and I already raced him once before when I had a slipping clutch and still won by a long shot. But he say he he is going to mod the hell out of his car and come get me. :D

Well, yeah, I knew all that. I remember about his hatch that got busted by a lightpole, and the other hatch that died. I also remember that he kept posting about his yearning for his white hatch.......and that he wanted another one. I also remember Jaron hating on the PH peeps with white hatches:D.

You know what is funny the Si hatch is only 100 pounds heavier then my ex coupe. I took out all my A/C and P/S shit so I should be pretty close to what a stock Si should be. I have the same motor as Jaron I prob run the 1/4 in high 15's now. I have a few mods.
