Thinking of getting CRX

Hey guys, i am sixteen years old and do not have a car yet. My neighbor has a 88 CRX si. He told me that he would sell it to me for 200 bucks since it is not in the best condition. The right drivshaft needs replacing because it clicks whenever turning left, it is pretty rusty on all fenders and there is a hole near the gas door. The clutch slips when shifting hard from 1st to second (5-speed) but the clutch was replaced 2 years ago and he only drove it in the winter, and it only has the driver seat. i dont mind that it needs some work because i would like to fix it up since my brother had 3 nice cars that he has done and he would be willing to help me.

Do you think that this car is worth 200 bucks? I want to talk him down to only 100 because i dont think it is worth that at all and that he wanted to junk it before. I will try to get some pics of it up here so it can help decide.

Thanks for any advice.

(not saying ur a bad driver, but sh*t happens, specially when u just get your license)

go for it. my CRX DX had 230k miles also, but i paid 1g...but then again my car was in good condition and had some work done to it(mainly some Si parts put in). the motor still runs strong; just keep up with the maintenance and it will never let you down.

That poor Si! That owner should get :slap: for letting it get that way. And I thought my car looked like crap....

You should get it though. If you wanted to part it out, you could easily get your money back. First, thing you should do if you do get it, is unbolt that seat and leave it with the owner and get some different seats... GL

my friend (owners brother) and i called up a junkyard today and found two seats for it. $20 a piece. We are going to check them out, hope they are in good condition. And we also might look at a halfshaft. Are these hard to take out because we have to pull all of the parts from the junk cars. Im guessing we might need some special tools for the ball joint s if those need to come off.

Also got him down to $100 for it. :grinyes:

To separate ball joints, you need a ball joint separator or a "pickle fork"...

found some seats! now it has 2 crx seats. they came out of an older crx. The drivers has a few tears in it but its alright. the passenger is good. After i get the car and learn how to remove the halfshafts i will try to find some of those.

How long do u think it would run with the bad driveshaft? Like i said in my first post it clicks when turning left. pretty loud.

My g/fs has been clicking for atleast 6 months now... CV joints will eventually break, but they usually will last a while until they do, until then they will just click and annoy you... When you order them, its best just to get 2 new axles rather than just the CV joint and boot... They should run u about $150... A bit more expensive, but its alot easier changing the whole axles...
