house or car

Recently i've found myself to be quite fortunate. My mom has offered to buy me a house. For about the same price you could buy a Lamborghini, but of course a house would put me in a much better position for the future. (you can't sleep in a lambo). Have any of you guys ever thought about this. What would you choose... a house or your dream car? Just day dreaming a bit... but the roar of V12 is mighty appealing.

A Porsche, 2 Geo's and a Lambo.... yeah that sounds right.

Just take the money instead. Then get yourself a descent car that you can fix up yourself, bank the money your mother gave you, and move into a small appartment and live off the interest. Simple as pie. But of course, I have never done that. I prefer to live in the basement of my parents house. But if I could, that would be my choice of plan . Now I'm going watch my parents tv and eat their food...

A house wothout a doubt!! :sunglasse You can't take a good comfortable shit in a Lambo!

Personally i'd take the house. Chances of her buying you a lambo are slim, chances of her buying the house you know are excellent. With the money you would save by having a house paid for, all of your money could go toward a nice car that you want. In the long run it works out well, and you have the comfort and safety of owning your own house. But thats my mature side talking, the devil that hangs out near my clutch foot says grab the fastest car you can.

Just buy a smaller house and a less expensive sportscar like a new Corvette or something. Or, buy a smaller house and invest that money and buy the Lambo later. But the smartest option would be to get yourself some reliable transportation and use the rest as a college fund.

Don't forget the insurance on the Lamborghini. If you're really 18 like your profile says, you are going to have an extremely hard time even getting insurance for it. Go with the house, and maybe spend some money on your Porshe, like upgrade your turbos.

House = increase in value
Lambo = decrease in value (usually)
Better decision is to take the house.
Although I like the idea of getting a smaller house, a nest egg, and a cheaper car. :)

Yeah, i've already decided on the house, but I was just day dreaming. It doesn't make financial sense to me to buy a lamborghini.

I think I could live there for free too. Just get a roomate and have them pay utilities. Instant equity also.

My gramma is basically buying me a house... :grinyes:
But anywho I would go with a house over any almost any car. The house is just too valueable on more levels, or atleast for me it is.

My parents once bought me a house.
Except they lived in it as well and when I was 19 they made me leave it.

I would get a house. Its beyond me why anyone would want to get a Lambo if they do not live in a country that would allow you to fully enjoy it. In Europe you can enjoy the speed, here in the states, you will be lucky getting 55 with the constant traffic jams. Plus the gas, yikes. Now a BMW would be nice. If every member sent in a dollar I think I can make it.

I would go for the house. My parents baught my brother a house. Just so he would get out of theirs. He moved out then 6 months later he moved back in with my parents. He is now 23. Why is it that the boys always get everything and the girls are shit out of luck?? My parents never got me a damn thing....I am gonna go cry to myself now...

I'm my father's only girl with 4 brothers (3 older, 1 younger). I get pretty much anything I want, and while they get most stuff they want, the older ones especially, don't really ask for much. I don't ask for a lot either, its just what I ask for I get. So I dunno :screwy:

Don't forget about property taxes, school taxes, etc. that are also involved with owning a home.

When I was younger I always wanted a porshe. I always thought if I had a chance to get a porshe or a house, I would just have to sleep in the porshe. But now no porshe but I own a house.

No shit, my taxes are a little over 1000 a year, not to mention the $400 insurance every month. Ouch. My home is worth it though

Not a home owner yet, but my dad has to fit his property tax hikes almost yearly because they want to raise them so high.

No question, I would choose a house. A house will build equity while pretty much any car won't.
