1974 Delta 88 Convertible Problem

Can anyone offer some help on troubleshooting my convertible top problem. I can't get it to go up or down. I have checked the fuses and the switch and they appear to be ok. The top problems started with it working intermittently and then stopped working altogether.

Hello.Do those convertible tops have one or two motors that operate the top?I would check and see if you are getting power at the motor(s).I know that Chilton has published a book just for convertible top repairs.I would see if you could find a copy.I have a friend of mine,And he has a Fisher Body manual that covers Oldsmobiles of that year.I will see if I can look at it,And send you some troubleshooting tips.Have a good day..Diesel 1962

There's 3 things of which any one could be the problem. First is the solenoid (about a $20 fix and easy to replace) mounted on the back seat wall inside the car. If it is bad nothing happens. No power to the motor. If the motor is running but the top isn't moving then it is most likely the cables running from the motor to the gears for the top. Those are about $30 a piece. If the motor isn't running and the solenoid is good then its about $350 for a new motor. None of these things are difficult to remove and replace.
