'92 5.7 -- Surge/chuggle or hesitation?

Still working on this -- HELP, Chevy guys! No trouble codes set. On hot start only, I have a surge and then stumble on move off. Also have it on light throttle cruise. After increased throttle it doesn't occur. Things done -- new fuel filter, PCV valve, distributor cap, rotor and spark plugs. Timing set to specs. EGR valve clean, holds suction, EGR solenoid works and holds suction. Swapped in old O2 sensor (which worked fine) and problem still there. NO vacuum leaks found.

When I disconnect the EGR valve and plug the solenoid valve port to the EGR, the chuggle is gone (Of course, the motor pings then, so I can't use that to fix the problem!)

Disconnecting the IAC stops the problem, but lets the idle speed run a little too high.

Any ideas?? Thanks, Sevie

i had the same problem almost but i was road hunting a coondog and my truck would surge when barley giving it gas. Turned out It was the egr. If you got the money try it. You may be surprized.

if egr is bad it will set a code most of the time
but can still cause a problem did you perform a vacumn test with the egr on the veh when it is hot
you do this with a vacumn pump if it skips when you pump it up gradually then let off vacumn and it
stops skipping possible ok. explain hot start only
usually when it gets hot you may have elec.problems possible distributor or tps i need more info like does it do it when it is cold and how far do you drive before you notice this happens

hey animal you may be on the right track if you change the egr replace it with an original gm part
not after market it has been my experiance that it will bite you in the butt.also call some shops and
see if they use bg products for a fuel injection serv
after you put on your new egr you can do this before you purchase the new egr it may possibly clean the old egr and the ports to the unit

easy check you need to make look to see if your map sensor is hooke up and is getting vacumn the egr will cause an internal vacumn leak so it effects
the map sensor & iac [ idle air control] the way you check for vacumn leaks use a can of carb cleaner
that has a small straw.you can buy at any parts store.the firt thing you do is take of breather with the engine running spray some in the throttle not a lot it will shut the engine off if the engine idles better you have a vacumn leak somewhere spray some around the egr if the engine idles up some
replace also spray around other parts of your intake
be care ful not to spray to much around the distributor it will start a fire use little burst it will help you find vacumn leaks
