Engine Swap for 1994 Sunbird

I have seen alot of people with older cavaliers, starting to swap in a 3400 out of an alero into the engine bay. I know that the sunbird and cavalier are virtually the same vehicle at heart, so.... the inevitable question is, can I swap in a 3400 into my wifes 94 Bird, and get rid of the painfully anemic 2.0L thats in there now?

thanks.

btw, if the 3400 isnt possible, what the hell is, this car is so underpowered, its annoying!!!

you can actually get a 3800SC in there, tight fit but it will go. for a good power upgrade, I'd go with the 2.3L HO quad with a header (it's been done) and swap in the tranny from the achieva or beretta gtz, gertrag 3.94. with the header alone you'll be really quick (high 14's with JUST the header) and with nitrous, you'll be slower, but traction will be a hard thing to find (LOL).
if ir's for the wifey, the 3400 will be a good motor, you can take it out on the weekend and run it hard.

Go to www.v6z24.com and look around, alot of member on that site have done the 3400 swap, and they are all real friendly. the site owner is a guy named Jason Bradwell AKA moonwell.

If you use the cavalier v6 bottom end with 3400 top end and pistons and it will bolt right up.

You will need the ECM and fuel pump and perhaps the fuel lines.

Then build the engine while its on a stand, then take a weekend to swap it in...

If only I was good at building motors.. lol. Where can I learn fast?

I mean.. I have the basic idea of it, but if it's not done right, like things are too tight or something, it's all down hill and dead. lol.

Get a Chiltons manual. It goes in-depth into the teardown and rebuild of the 2.0s and 3.1s...

Basically, remove the head bolts on a cav v6, and again on the 3400 block...get a new headgasket...clean the surfaces, drop in the headgasket with some gasket sealant, and it will bolt up to the existing motor mounts...

For the fuel pump, just drop the gas tank (2 bolts to remove the straps, gas tank drops right out)

Its practically plug n play!

Yeah, resprayed with help of a friend. The 3.1 will go right into the car, but there might need to be a strut upgrade (for larger engine), fuel pump, harness, ECU, mounts, and maybe a few other things.

You can get some good power out of that 2.0 MPFI. In the next few months I am port and polishing the head, getting a header, getting performance cam, reringing the pistons, new headgasket/bolts (DUH :shakehead:screwy:), larger exhaust. She'll be running REAL good after that!

Dont forget you will need to upgrade the hubs and brakes with a v6 swap, too...or else you'll never stop in time!
