Hi all..I just bought a 1995 Grand Am SE 4cl, 4 door. It came with 1 remote, but I'd like to get another for the ole lady.
I found a few on ebay that looks the same as my original and matches the FCC ID and part# of mine exactly, but my question is if I buy one of these from ebay is it a dealer only reprogram or can I reprogram it myself? If it's possible to reprogram myself could someone please post the instructiuons.
thanks very much

No, it does not have to be done by a dealer. Check out the Thread at the top of the Forum page there is one on reprogramming the remotes on the GA's.
Welcome to the Forum, You will find a great deal of information to almost anything that comes up, or even any questions you may have about your Grand Am.

Thanks for the welcome..I read the thread on reprogramming remotes, but it says 1997 to 2004.. is the procedure the same for the 1995 as well?
thanks

Ok..today I recieved my keyless remote that I ordered from ebay. It is brand new and is visually identical and numbers matching to my original.
I found the 2 pin plug under the remote module and stuck a paper clip in it which cycled the door locks and the trunk latch..With the paper clip still connected I pressed and held the lock and unluck buttons on the original remote..In about 2 seconds the locks and trunk latch cycled again so I released the buttons and picked up the new remote and again pressed and held the lock and unlock buttons, but this time the locks and trunk latch did not cycle..I continued to hold the buttons probably for a minute or so and nothing happened..I then removed the paperclip from the 2 pin programming plug and pressed the trunk release button on the new remote..nothing happened..I pressed it again..nothing happened..I pressed it a 3rd time and the trunk latch clicked so I thought great it works! I was wrong..The new remote worked, but the original no longer worked.
I went through all the steps again and this time the original worked, but the new one stopped working..
I messed around with it probably for 2 hours and twice I got them both to work for 30 seconds or so then inevitably one or the other would stop working..
I got frustrated and took the car and the remotes to the local GM dealer who said they could program the new one for me for $10-$20..I thought I must have missed a step or something and that the pro would have no problem getting the new remote to work, but I was wrong..He had the same problem.. 1 or the other remotes could be programmed, but not both..He double checked the remote to make sure it was the same as the original, which it was, and also tested both remotes on some kinda remote tester machine and they both tested out just fine..He told me that the keless module(not sure the exact name he used for it) could be bad..If thats true then why would the remotes even work at all?
Am I doing something wrong?
please help if you can....Thanks

I'll check it Haynes in the morn. and drop a post. I thought that the procedures would be the same for the 95's & 97's, sorry 'bout that.
Hang in there,

No prob..thanks for helping..
I took the car and remotes to a large GM dealership today and they tried to program the new one and could not get it to work....I'm beginning to think the new remote or possibly the reciever has problems....But it still confuses me that one or the other remotes can be programmed and works just fine, but if the old one works then the new one doesn't and vice versa.
When programming the original remote the locks cycle, but when programming the new one they do not cycle..Do you think the new remote is flakey?
thanks

Problem solved....Turns out the suposedly new remote I got off of ebay was bad. I went to a junkyard and they gave me (for free) a Buick remote that had the same FCC ID and I had it programmed and working in under a minute.
thanks
