NA 240sx

Yes i am planning to buy a 240sx next month or hopefully if I end up finding what I am looking for. Anyway I alwasy liked NA but I only new about teh SR20DET which as most people know is turbo but then I came across the SR20DE which is naturally aspirated so I got teh idea of making over the years a NA SR20 similar to teh one from Toda Racing. My question is, how much horsepower and torque does this engine deliver stock and is it an easy swap just like the SR20DET. It seems that everywhere that I looked, i could onyl find teh stats of teh SR20DET but never the SR20DE. Thanks in advance.

well wacking off the turbo youd prob lose 30-40 hp

but i dont think it comes in N/A so you would have to replace some parts

...My question is, how much horsepower and torque does this engine deliver stock...
WAY less then KA24DE (stock engine), it has .4L less displacement and weak internals.

if u dont mind me asking, why no turbo? i myself love turbo's but you probably have your reasons. I agree with the guy above. The sr has less hp and displacement and the ka24 is a decent engine but the SR is widely in demand or from what ive heard it is

it'll be more ideal to use the 2.4 liter ka24de. Well if you are trying to use a n/a Sr... which one are you going to use? The Sr came in a lot of cars...

you're probably gonna have to buy an sr20det and take the turbo off cause i don't think you can get a rwd sr20de.. maybe i'm wrong..
if i'm right then you'll have a n/a sr20de with 8.5:1 pistons which right off the bat isn't beneficial to an n/a engine.. not the most efficient way to get to high hp numbers.. at all..

use the stock engine if you want n/a cause you'll be putting out probably 20 more hp with it completely stock. having said that, the stock sr20de probably puts out about 145hp stock

Guys, guys, they had SR20DEs in the Q's and J's models, only the K's had a turbo.

S13 SR20DE: 145hp - 131ft/lb
S14 SR20DE: 161hp - 138ft/lb (VVT)

okay...what is the point of buying a LOW COMPRESSION sr20det and hacking off the turbo!???? doesnt anyone understand engines? if your looking to spend doh building a N/A engine (like in toda racing, which is dry sunk and fully built and balanced and REAALY REALLY EXPENSIVE!) you wont get as much power as a KA24DE...allz the KA needs is better internals and engine balancing..(known to have NON!) the sr is actually a better high performance engine. it has oil squirters and a wider head/block surface mating space.(better to protect against blowing head gaskets and such.) if you open both up, youll quickly see why one is a truck engine and one is a sports car engine. BUT, if youve made up your mind on a SR dont listen to these foohz and "HACK" off the turbo...thats just a waste of money, get yourself Q's SR and be smart and spend that money sending your KA to a "QUALITY" performance machine shop. get the heads done, new cams for more revving power, SS valves, port it, new pistons, gakets, OEM original bearings, metal low comp. head gasket, ARP BOLT IT!...and voilaAAAHH!! you got yourself a high power, high torque N/A engine

JUST REMEMBER THAT N/A ENGINES COST A GRIP! so get your credit card prepared.

airflow=horsepower. So however much air you get through the engine is how much power you make. I don't think there's a better way to get more air through the engine than forcing it through.;)

very true, but not the whole truth...compression is what horsepower ulitmately depends on...but airflow will get more compression...so...um...yeah..end of thread

the reason why toda sells all motor engines is because when your on the track, high rpm's is a HUGE PLUS against other people...turbo takes different techniques and has its up and downs...literrally

ummm wacking off the turbo??? No, you just have na sr imported over. Like whoever said. Id rather have turbo, more hp for less time and hassle.

thx a lot guys..and i dont personally have anything againts turbo, i just like teh high reving NA engine, i just wanted to kow if their was actually an NA sr20..but like 240SXSlideStar said..their is the one from the S14 that is 161hp and 138 torque..this must be faster isn't...I have always heard that the KA24 is like a truck engine and is very slow..is this true?

The KA was used in a truck, yes, but it's a damn good engine, everyone needs to drop it about it being from a truck! It's like if you met this fucking hot chick, I mean supermodel gorgeous, but she used to be fat, would you care? NO!

btw, this isn't directed in anyone in particular, just everyone who says the KA is a truck engine.

plus the truck ka and the 240 ka is a bit different isnt it? I thought it was.

I know that the Altima KA is 150hp and 155ft/lb or torque and the 240 KA is 155hp and 150ft/lb of torque, I'm guessing the truck KA is like the Altima KA.

k so its still good..i guess once i actually get the car i would just have to test it out my self lol..but thx to everyone for the help

04-30-2005, 08:36 PM
btw, if you like high revving NA engines so much, get a Honda, you can build it for like a 10,000 redline and stuff like that.

04-30-2005, 08:38 PM
i wasn't suggesting "hacking off the turbo" i was saying in a sarcastic way that it wasn't a good idea. if you want to go n/a, get a ka from a 240 and work on it. you could probably find one for like $100 thats absolute toast since you'll be putting new internals in, probably new lifters and valves and everything. i don't know if you consider valves as internals but whatever.. its not a bad idea if you have the money to support it

Us 240sx/Viper guys like our truck engines.

Pavlo
04-30-2005, 10:36 PM
yeah, everybody loves torque! KA will smoke SR (both stock NA) in just about any test. The truck motors (KA) are tuned a bit differently then the one on 240sx IIRC, and have less HP, the engine is made to have as much power as possible on lower RPM for towing purposes.

Mister "I always read threads."

You may read the threads, but might want to read up on your KA. The KA has 160 ft. lbs, not 150.:disappoin

blackcomet if you can get a NA SR go for it....a fully built NA SR with ITBs would be pimp as hell

wait so let me get this straight you are wanting to swap out the KA for a SR20DE and go all motor on it. why not just go all motor KA?

yeah i want to see someone with a fully pimped n/a ka24de with 4 tbs pushing 300+ hp. that would be way way waaaaaaay sicker than a pimped sr20de.

btw going all motor sr20 isnt like going all motor honda
sr20s dont rev or breath even close to as well as a b16. theyre just famous and popular for being able to handle lots of boost without breaking
if you want high revving all motor nissan go buy a b13 SE-R and swap in a sr16ve. not sure of the specs but its something like 170 hp 120 ft/lb with a 9k redline

and if you have all that money to throw around go look here and make us all jealous

lol ya those are sick engines lol..and by the way..to all those sayin I would not consider keeping the KA you are wrong, I was just as well considering teh other possibilities for an NA engine. And no I do not expect a red line of 10,000rpm either, I would just like an engine without forced induction. And I do not want a civic because I wanted something rear wheel drive. I considered cars like the Corolla GTS but cannot even find one anywhere near my area lol. I am aware of th amount of money needed to make a good NA car, just individual throttle bodies can be very expensive and thats just the start, that does not even count all teh high compression pistons, cam gears and cam shafts etc. but thanks anyway for all teh help lol. And about that b13, im guessing you are not talking about a b13 out of an rx-7 lol and SE-R as in Sentra. if it's from their, what transmission can I put on it, the KA one ?

Actually, many people in japan use the sr20de for endurance racing, I guess there is some class where that engine has the upper hand or something, b/c I have seen many of the that were itb'd etc...

Get a TODA 2.2 liter N/A crate engine in the S2000, RWD and a 250whp N/A engine with a 10 grand redline.

blackcomet
05-03-2005, 06:46 PM
ya i thought about that a long time ago about teh S2000 engine, I asked about it on the quebec tuning forum adn they all thought I was crazy and that the chassis can't handle it or something like that, either way I never even got what I was looking fro so I gave up on that idea.

orestes
05-03-2005, 07:39 PM
lol the chassis cant handle it? i can imagine all those 125 lb/ft from the F20 just wrecking the chassis. lol jk the s2000 engine would be sick, (but no torque!)

240SXSlideStar
05-03-2005, 08:19 PM
I meant in an S2000. lol But if we're talking swap, then those guys are morons, if the S13 chassis can withstand 632whp and 599ft-lbs or whatever the fuck Ivan put down then it can sure as hell handle the "torque" put out by the F20.

blackcomet
05-03-2005, 08:41 PM
well I guess it's true..all I know is I gto a bunch of negative and retarted comments about this engine swap.So ya..I remember what I asked was teh dimensions of the stock KA and the F20C as well as where the mounts are placed so that I can get an idea of how much modifying I would need to get it in and I think I got like 3 pages worth of me getting told off lol. I think I will have to end up with turbo at the end because it doesn't seem like the NA will work out. I still want to try though..plus I love teh look of individual throttle bodies on an engine so I have to try it out. Is there even a set for the KA, I know there is for the sr20de because many companies like Toda and Tomei both had them on there engines!!!

05-04-2005, 08:53 PM
well, im not much for the cross breeding s2000 motor in a 240, but if your lookin for the sr20de still, then you should only look for the s13's de, the jacks and queens models. the reason for this is that the s14 motors had variable valve timing, and if your planning on modding it greatly wiht cams and high comp head etc. then the vvt will be pretty much voided out, or so ive heard, so the extra money for the vvt motor is burnt in a bonfire.

blackcomet
05-04-2005, 09:22 PM
thx a lot Nismo, I was just abou to ask about the variable valve timing on another post lol because my friend has an accent and he wants to do the Beta 2 swap but he doesn't know if he should get it with VVT or not because he wantes NA as well lol. Anyway ya ill look into that S13 sr20de.

blackcomet
05-05-2005, 08:32 PM
by the way, something I forgot to ask was how many RPM's can teh SR20DE handle without me having to spend 50G on engine internals. I was thinking of bringin it up to 8000..8500 max

SHIFT_KA24DE
05-05-2005, 08:39 PM
well if your not upgrading internals... i'd stick to the factory redline
