I just bought a 99 GS-R and the second night i had it, i brought it out and i met up w/ a friend who always wanted to race my 97 Civic EX coupe, and like usual, he asked if i wanted to race.
***********now this guy knows nothin about Hondas, except that in his mind, they are all slow economy cars**********
He has a 2004 Pontiac G6 GT that has a 3.5L V6 w/ 210hp and 230ft/lb
We drove out south of town and lined up to race. I had never raced my GS-R before and i had just barely gotten used to the clutch. Anyway we each had a passenger in the car and so did i. We lined up and decided that we'd start on the count of 3. He counted. I didn't know where to launch from so i picked 3000rpm. As he counted down i put it into first and got 'er ready to go.
He said 2.....1.....i popped the clutch and let 'er rip. I spun the tires right off the bat and the rpms never dropped. I heard a squeeling and it started to pull. At this point he was ahead of me. The rpms continued to rise above 4500. When this happened and VTEC kicked in, the tires began to smoke according to my friend's passenger in the G6, it could've been exhaust too though. The tires eventually got hot and caught traction. In first gear it revved very quickly since the tires had lost contact, so at the shift, i hit the rev limiter. I quickly shifted to 2nd and was on my way.
This whole time i was ride beside the G6. After i shifted into 2nd, i started to pull away. Soon it was time to shift to 3rd and then to 4th. We were racing to a sign that was over 1/4 mile away (not sure how much more than a 1/4). Soon enough i was over 100mph and then 120mph. In the end i dominated him.
I beat the hell out of that G6 and the whole time i did it, i was still on Blizzak snow tires!! I put my Eagle RS-A summer tires on and now i'm good to go, i just can't find anyone to race. At the end of the race, i was ahead by about 5 or 6 car lengths, and i think it's safe to say that if i had better tires on right away, i would have increased that lead to as much as 8 car lengths.
It was a fun Saturday night and i wised his ass up to the power of those little Hondas (Acura in this case, but same thing)

nice win, sounds like you've got some learning of the car tho ( i know you just got it, so you'll get better w/ time.)
if you got up to 120, you guys had to be racing closer to 1/2-3/4 mile. 1/4 mile the gsr should only run up to the VERY beginning of 4th in the high 80-low 90 mph range. nice run tho, any plans?

i am waiting to put any mods on it because i am saving money for college. I also have this little voice in the back of my head that wants to put a turbo or a sc on my car. So no header or any other mods in the near future. It came w/ a CAI on it. I just ordered some JDM 9006 yellow bulbs...i don't remember the name but they are sweet....i don't have them yet, but my friend does.
If i was to sell my Civic, then i could start to mod my GS-R. Until that point at least, i'm keepin it stock.

I had a 1997 GSR and did the whole JRSC at (in th end) 13lbs., and having owned many forced inducted Honda's, I will recommend doing a turbo, or a custom turbo on that car. I will never do another JRSC, not because it didn't work, because the bang for buck was bad, you had to spend many $$$ to upgrade(i.e. make faster), and my fastest e.t was 13.8 in the 1/4. I had a SOHC 92 Civi Si, with a greddy kit, and a few mods, tuned, that ran a 13.7. I spent more on the GSR than the Si also. Just trying to give good advice. The GSR @ 13 lbs. dyno'ed at 208 at the wheels, the Si @ 198, it was lighter and faster, and close on HP. I have built 3 friends custom turbo setups, with stock bottom/engine, the best HP @ 342, with built block(sleeved) @ 408. Just depends on your $$$$.

WHAAAAT?? you ran a 13.8 at 13lbs of boost on a gsr with 208 whp??? tell me now, what was wrong with your car, did you not support the fuel needs of the engine? did you have your timing at ~6 deg BTDC with no form of timing control? where you running on 3 cylinders? Also, what was your trap speed?

Dude. That's what those cars run. They put down what? 120whp stock? And run high 14s? Add 80hp and voila. High 13s.

Yeah....a GSR should be putting about 150whp or so....and w/ the JRSC @ 13psi he should be putting down numbers in the 240-250whp range if everything is working correctly.

A G6 with the 3.5 is only 200hp and weighs around the 3400 lb mark. This is a "kill" in what way? You beat a damned cow. Not to mention they only come with automatics.
Race yourself a 3.9L, then it might BARELY be a "kill."
I also don't know why it surprises you that you pulled up to 120 mph, last time I checked GM kept it's cars governed around the 108 mark.
