well i was just at a party and i dont drink or anything, i never have and after this really dont plan to, but honestly why would anyone drink booze? explain your reasons, and please tell me one good reason at all, i think its the most pointless thing to do, friends at the party wanted me to, but i hate it i dont see a point at all, why get wasted! one of them started saying "why do you like cars? its something you do" how can you really compare drinking to auto racing, im just pissed off at anything like drugs and booze at this point and have just cut off all comunications with half of the friends there, anyone, at all have a good reason cause im just not seeing it!

I drink to relax or get my mind off of my problems.

I think the simple answer is, it makes you feel good. Alcohol and drugs all affect people differently. Sometimes I drink after work because it was a long day and really need to relax, feel good, and forget about my troubles. I drink with friends because alcohol lowers your inhabitions, gets you comforatable in your surroundings, and to some extent help you get laid.

It's understandable how you feel the way you do. Having never been drunk and looking at all your friends get fucked up and acting goofy can be a major deterrent to drinking. If it's not your thing then it's not your thing.

there is a difference between drinking a glass or two of wine with a nice dinner, and getting totally sh*tfaced at a party... are you asking why do people imbibe at all? or why do people get completely wasted?

It's fun to an extent, I've gone past the "extent" part a couple times and it's really not fun then. it makes for some interesting conversations though. :P

I am a very shy person. I drink only at public occasions, and when I go to Germany. It definitly loosens me up, so i'm not all quite and shit. I don't drink alone, that could get depressing.

I've gotten wasted a few time and thought it was kinda fun but the next morning really sucked so I don't really drink much at all when I do. But I do smoke weed on occaision with friends and it just helps me relax...I'd never do it often enough to make it a habit though.

Currently being under the influenece...it's nothing bad, for me anyways, it does make me feel good and I can seem to let go of the past, and all the shit in my life. I don't take pride in the fact that i'm an alcoholic but it does have that effect on your body that makes yo0u feel good. Should you try it? completely your decisison, and friends should respect your decivisin on it no matter what, but if you do decide to try it be careful, first couple times are didffernt for ya but you'll get use to it and find your tolerances, if not man, cool, you can do just as well without it. If you can't find new friends that dont drink, then i dontk now what to tell you, but it's nothing too bad to try it sometime, just be careful so you dont do something you dont want to. IK've witnessed it too many times when people do stupid things, and i'm actually responsible when i'm drunk and i try to stop people from doing overly stupid things, but last thursday night we took a trip in the woods while it was muddy and it was fun!! Alcohol does make things better, whehter you believe it or not, but just have to be careflu with it.

etoh is not a bad thing unless you need it. I have seen people who don't get it go in to etoh withdrawl seizures. Kinda fun to watch :evillol: . If you just drink on occasion and don't rely on it there is nothing wrong with it. Just dont be dumb and drink and drive. If you go out always have a D.D. Or call a taxi. I have seem way to many bodies dead from drunk drivers and i live in a lil town. I got to cut one out with the Jaws of life. Not a fun job doing body recovery.

well i used to like getting hammered every weekend and all that shit. Was fun in high school, but then i got a DUI. I really dont drink anymore, and if i do, i dont drink to get drunk. Now i enjoy drugs that are less detectable and dont give you a hangover. Weed is great and so are prescription pills.

Exactly, there is a huge difference b/w the two.

You're young though. It's good that you know you don't like or want to drink. But to want to cut off ties with your friends just b/c they do is pretty ignorant. People just want to have a good time and so they choose to drink to make themselves feel other than sober and just take their minds off of problems they may be having.

I drink b/c i've always been around it with my family. It's never been a negative issue. I don't drink in excess to get stupid. I get a buzz and quit. I started smoking weed b/c i liked it, i actually liked it better than drinking. I started smoking heavily b/c it helped me deal with my depression and last year i did it a lot b/c it was really the only thing that helped me deal with my roomate.

To relax and loosen up a little bit. I am a VERY tense person and always have a high guard up. You may consider me an angry person as well. Having one or two beers(guiness[sp?] or corona [during the warmer months] preferably) will loosen me up and make me a little more social.

That is one negative side to alcohol though. It has two very different affects on people. Some people can chill and be happy and social. Others get extremely violent and angry.

As you might think it is ignorant for them to say that drinking to them is like cars is to you it makes sense. It is something they enjoy, you have no knowledge of it so you cant decide if you enjoy it or not or have any feelings of meaning towards the act of drinking unless you yourself have been drunk before. Now they say that it is like cars is to you.... why? Because they arent into cars, they dont have a lot of knowledge about them so they assume that it is like that.

I say go get drunk!

I drink because it loostens me up a little. However I have really cut back because the last time I drank heavy I embarassed my self stupid and completely blew it with a girl I liked. Since then the most I drank in a night was 2 beers and 1 rum and coke.

LOL... dude... get a grip. It's just some beer... they're not trying to get you to snort coke or shoot up hahaha. And how are you going to knock it if you've never drank before. I'm not saying that you should drink, I'm guessing you're not exactly old enough to, but don't be a dillweed and "cut off communications" with people who choose to drink... that's just lame.

I drink at parties. A social thing so I dont feel like the only sober person there. Last time I drank though, I got way to drunk. I don't remember most of it and according to some friends I cheated on my girlfriend... with a guy?! I'll still drink in the future but I need to learn my limit. I woke up the next morning and I had a couple hours of cleaning up ahead of me, before my mom saw the aftermath.

That's a huge reason why not the get drunk. For me, it's never really been an issue. My friends and I have parties, and still have fun, but never get drunk. I go to a Christian high school, some people still get drunk, but they are the minority by far.

I forgot to post this earlier. I dont drink much, only when I need to do certian things like forget about things, when im stressed, when im mad, when im in pain, when im partying, when im bored, when i want to go to sleep, and sometimes when i enjoy a bloody mary first thing in the morning. Also any combination of those things listed above work as well. For instance right now im drinking bacardi gold rum (3 fingers and 2 rocks makes it perfect) because i want to sleep, have a messed up knuckle (ow) and am generally bummed out. Thats why I drink. And yeah, alcoholics go to meetings besides if i went my blood/alcohol level might drop dangerously low. And im not a quitter. If you need a reason to drink go here. http://members.aol.com/aislingzzzz/365drinks.html

Friend of Bill Wilson here, I got caught up in the BS. Now I know better. 1935 75% recovered, now 2-5% recover if we are lucky. Oh my how AA has been watered down. Thank god for a book, that kept the way the original 100 got sober in tact. I am old school, I have not shared on my feelings in years, or what I did today/yesterday/tommorow. I keep that for my AA friends and my sponsor. Alot of BS, how is the newcomer suppose to filter the fact from fiction? They can't!!

Normal drinkers drink to relax. I drink to escape reality, and to get drunk. I have a disease, of both my mind and body. You want me to continue, email me at [email protected] I got no problems 12 stepping over email. As to help another, will help me.

This is my short rant................. ;o)

Drinking booze is a depressant. That means your motor skills slow down. Once I start drinking I cant stop, that is a classic sign of a alcoholic. Drinking ceases to be a luxery anymore. Now-a-days : For me to drink is to die. Or end up in prison, or become brain dead. I crossed that line years and years ago. Sure I never drank everyday. Sure some spilled more on their T-shirts and large beer guts then I ever drank. But when I binged, I got messed up. The fact is when I drank, I got arrested. Looking back, every bad situation with the police or anybody, was due to booze. I always broke out in cuffs, or in spots.... Seattle, San Diego, Miami, Denver. Dude when I get the obsession that I can drink normally, like normal people. That is the disease in action. My mind is trying to trick me. It remembers the few good times, and forgets the many bad times. AA is not for old people, under the bridge drinking from a paper bag. I am 30, got 3yrs new years. And here they got teenager recovery houses. ARC for one. I dont do meetings everyday no more. I get sick of hearing the lies. I dont care about personal info shared at a meeting level. I do a meeting or 2 a week, if there is no BIG BOOK STUDY, not discussion going on. Where only one person does the talking, if you got a question, you can ask it. I am in a crap shoot, my winning numbers are between 2 and 5%. Its either you or me when we sit down in the couch in some room somewhere. I care about everyone, but I have to look out for my best interests. I will show respect. I will not treat the rooms as a day-care. I will not treat the rooms as a dog kennel. I can sit still today, without tapping my foot for an hour. I can sit quietly, at ease, and serene. I will not think about crap statements made in meeting rooms. But how can I bring my message to a newcomer. How can I rise above the crap, and have this newcomer really listen. So hey man, again. To help you, I help myself. May god be with you. But for the grace of god. 24 hrs a day. Anyway I got a whole novel I can re-write. But I dont. I got all the "slogans", but I don't say them. ;o)

well...i have a reason not to drink...cause if you don't drink, and you wake up in bed with 2 girls, usually you can remember who they are and why they are there. If you're drunk and passout and wake up with 2 girls, and your night was a bit fuzzy...it leaves others to fill in the details :disappoin

To each their own. Personally I rarely drink, a beer at a party or a shot here and there. Sometimes I don't drink at all because I'm driving. Thats my biggest deal just drink responsibly. As long as they don't get in a car and crash into my girlfriend/mother/sister on the way home and kill them its their business.

Only time I don't like people who drink are when they try to start shit just because they are a nasty drunk. Besides that go ahead and get wasted yeah its fun so why not enjoy it, just don't be stupid about it.

Before I came to uni I was drinking every Saturday night for a while.

First term of uni it was 2-3 nights a week,in a row, getting drunk every night.

Went back for home for 2 weekends, drank both Saturday nights.

Came back, and been sober for 2 weeks to help me study. I feel better too.

But, back on the juice this Saturday! Since the majority of tests are finished...

I drink because we all drink, and we all have stupid fun. It's the easiest way we got to know eachother...16 odd people on a floor, we're all best friends after a few drinks. Really helped us get to know eachother (and I don't mean that in a dirty way).

Drinking is part of uni life I think. And engineering students are the biggest drinkers :D

Never done anything to get me in trouble while drunk, I just can't lose control, no matter how much I drink.

I do because drinking is FUN. I don't like to get shitface, just get a tad hammerd and then go hit on the ladies, dance, whatever. When I drink, I loose all my barriers and I do what I want to do and I don't care what others think of me at the time. When I am sober, I always feel I have to carry myself a certian way, born and raised that way I guess.

WERD to THAT!:iceslolan

When i first started engineering, i thought i'd be surrounded by a bunch of geeks (except myself, of course) Boy was i wrong. We were by far the THE rowdiest floor in the area. (And one of the ChemEng girls is freaking HOT!) We even went though three RA's! The first couple of days everyone kept to themsleves. Then the first weekend came and the booze broke out, and from that moment on, it was always a party in the hall until 4 am. God i miss those days.

Engineers - work hard, party hard.

I live in a small shitty town, so there's fuck-all else to do besides drugs. First time I got drunk was in winter, right after I turned 15, and I puked all over my buddies room. That next summer me and my friends started drinking every weekend and getting shitfaced almost every time. I'm 19 now, and not much has changed. In the past 4 years I've only been sober about 4 or 5 weekends, and 3 were because I was on medication. There's been lots of shitty things that have happened to me when I was hammered... I've gotten charged with a noise violation, underage drinking, open liquior in a vehicle, I got thrown in the drunk tank a couple weekends ago. I got my ass kicked bad, twice. I got my dad's truck stuck in a snowbank and then when I was driving my friends truck to pull it out I hit the ditch and fucked it up. I punched a tail light out of a sunfire and severed the tendon on my knuckle and had to get 10 stitches. Two of my best freinds have gotten DUI's, another one rolled a neon end-over-end at about 90mph going around a corner last summer...and the list goes on.

However, all that being said, I have no regrets. there have been countless nights that were so awesome words can't even describe them. No matter how much fun you think you can have sober, you can have more drunk.
