well i got tired of having all of those chrome little revell tuner rims in my box that i was never going to use, so i decided that i would experiment on making wide lip rims with them. i know there are tons of threads on making these, but for people like me who cant get any styrene around here this works rather well.
here we go,
1. first, you find the victim, i mean tuner rims that you would like to cut up.

2. then after you pick which one you want, use your dremel and cut it right in half at the center bulge

3. you should have something similar to this, discard the part with the spokes, or keep it for another project you may have in mind :iceslolan

4. now take the other part that is just a ring, and shave the rest of the center bulge off, trying to keep it as even as possible
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/atmdc/tutorial%20for%20rims/MVC-011F.jpg
5. you should now have your wide lip, make sure that you fill in those 4 little circles on the lip (i havent done that on myne yet), then just glue it to the wheel, paint them and slap the kits original tire on them

here are some before and after shots of the wheels i tested this out on, they are not painted yet, but i will use this on my RX-7 project

hope this helps anyone who might have not had any styrene like me

yea, i almost cut my thumb off with a dremel, 37,000rpm saw blade and thumb. 3 days in hospital an operation under general anasthetic/rendered unconscious. cut lots of stuff (tenden ligement nerve muscle etc..)
nice method though i tried using styrene sheet to extend rim depth but it doesn't work well

On the subject of tips, where a particle mask. Warm plastic doesnt taste as good as warm chocolate chip cookies.

Nice work. Do yourselves a favor and invest in some razor saws or various types. A jeweler's saw would cut those just as well, with less flashing, a thinner cut line, and less risk to the flesh.

Great tutorial, maybe try a jigsaw to cut the wheel, that way you don't have to worry about the dremel slipping and cutting you.
