How to flush coolant 98 Gen5.

hi guys, I'm a proud owner of a 98' lude in diamond white pearl. it's a sports-shift and has about $10K worth of aftermarket stuff on it.

it's my car's 4th year, so I wanna flush the coolant before it starts eating away on the engine. anyone flush their 97's or 98's lately? How hard is it to do, and how much coolant do I have to buy?

Hi, I don't own a lude but if you own a car, if you've done one flush, you've done them all. It should be the same all around. First you want to park your car on a level area, no tilting in any direction. Get under the car and look in the area where the radiator is. I don't know if you have things blocking you under your car so you have to check. Anyway, look for a plug towards the bottom of the radiator. And much like you do an oil change, open it up. It should come all out. You will need to have place to dump it, preferably your local maintenance shop will do it for a small fee. Please do not dump it on the street. The scent attracts animals and they will drink it.(Don't ask how I know this:D) After it completely drains, close it up. Now, this is the tricky part. You might need to containers of the stuff to do this properly. Pour the first container into the radiator. It will probably fill up completely, but it should empty completely. Then, turn on your car and leave it idling. You should see the fluid drain from the radiator because it is going through the whole engine and filling in the empty places. As it is emptying, you should be pouring in the second container to keep it from becoming completely empty. Keep pouring until it can't take any more. Any excess fluid, your car will dump it. Once you are sure it can't take anymore, close the radiator. One thing too, under no circumstance are you to open it up if the car has been running for a long time. Pressure and a lot of heat builds up so that is why you can only do this when you are filling it up.

If this all seems too much, then just take it to the local Jiffy Lube and they'll do it all for about 20-30 bucks, it's not that expensive.

Most Hondas have bleed valves in the coolent lines to stop air bubbles from getting trapped in the system. (which is VERY bad).
So it might pay to have a look over all the coolent paths to try and find at least 1, or even better get a helms manual and find out for sure.

yep, got it flushed and oil changed today at the dealer. it went by pretty quick. was checking out the S2000's while I waited. didnt get to test drive it though, as the dealer opens at 9am and I was at service since 6:30am. :D gonna take the lude out for a spin. :frog:
