If you're serious all you have to do is a little research online and have an ample supply of coin. there are plenty of established companies in the Us that sell complete LS1 or LT1 "take out" packages. includes engine, accessories, wiring, etc.
These cars came with LT1's and LS1's so it will fit. GM didn't produce 2 chassis, etc.
There are even websites that list everything you need to do to make the conversion.
However, to save you a little time, go with the LT1. It'll be cheaper, less in demand, and it'll be more compatable with your car's wiring.
do a google search for LS1 conversions, etc.

Most Firebirds front ends are the same size therefore allowing any specified engine type to fit. So your answer is Yes.

If you have the money....LS1.
Try to find a shortblock, and build it how you want it. Gonna cost ya, but you will have a powerhouse car.

the best way to do the swap is to fine a car that you can pull the motor, crossmember and entire front suspension out of it at the same time, because you have to bring it out the bottom anyway... and it is easier to drop the crossmember, a-arms, and front suspension all at one time... then the only thing that you have to get is the computer... because your V6 transmission (4L60 or 4L60E if auto) will bolt up and hold up fine, the only thing that you may need would be a rear end because the ones they put in the V6's just arent as sterdy as they should be, but you wont need that for a little while down the road... as far as a price on it... we did the swap on my friends 95 Camaro, from a 3.4 to an LT1 for rite at $1500, but that is a killer deal, I knew some people, lol... and did the work myself... but anyway, good luck to ya and if i can help in anyway, let me know...
