Catalytic Converter

My 94 Ford Escort looses power when I go up hill. I've tuned the car up and it is a little bit better. The exhaust pipe is rusted apart at the muffler but still some exhaust comes out at the muffler. I am sold on the idea that my catalytic converter is clogged. Does anyone have any thoughts on this type of problem?

how did you tune it up. what did you do? what does it do exactly when it "loses power"?
IT'S LOSES PEOPLE! NOT LOOSES! YOU DON'T LOOSE SOMETHING! YOU LOSE IT!

Yes a cat converter can cause that to happen but I have read that a faulty o2 sensor will take the cat out also. The older cars you can tell if it is the cat by letting the car run go for a long ride (at night) and look under and if it is really bad you'll actualy see it "glowing" red.
Otherwise take it to a repair shop chain they will be able to tell you normally at no cost for a free estimate for repairs.
