The overdrive switch located in the shifter isn't working in my truck. I tried replacing it but it still doesn't work. The "OFF" indicating light does however flash for a brief second when I turn on the ignition, after the vehicle is running it won't illuminate no matter how many times I push the darn thing. The dealer recommended I bring it in and said it probably has a cost of 600-700 bucks for repair.....What can I try, any ideas?

if you are replacing the button in the end,the shift stalk is probably the problem.remove the key lock cyl. and the trim around the steering colume.where the wire comes out of the shifter will usually chaff and break causing the problem you describe.
