Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if anyone else has run into a problem w/the outside door handles on thier 2003 Sonata's. There is a plate around the actual handle and the paint is comming off. It seems to be happening w/each handle, and no where else on the car. I was wondering if this may be a defect on the plate around the handles. I know the inside handles had a defect with the coating on them comming off and I had them replaced under warranty but did not know if this w/b covered under warranty also. It is very noticeable and irritating. Any help or info on this you can give me is greatly appreciated.
Have a wonderful day everyone!!!!

Check with your dealer on whether they will cover it under warranty. Paint is only covered 3yr 36k miles though, so you would have to at least be under that. As far as being a common problem, I can't recall ever seeing anything like that coming through here for that problem.

Ok thank you very much, I'm definatly under 36k so hopefully it will be. Just thought I would see if anyone else had this problem.

Same problem on my 2003 Sonata. I'm removing all the handles myself and having them repainted at a body shop - $150. All four are peeling. Obviously a defect or bad lot. Did someone forget the primer?
Dealer says paint warranty expired at 36,000 miles. Paint has always been a weakness for Hyundai. You can appeal to Hyundai customer service and wait three months for a "get lost".
