Hello,
My friend just got his '02 tranny replaced for free at the dealership--said it was recalled and was slipping. Now the same tranny symptoms are still there and the check engine light came on. He took it back to the dealership and they said that a shifting code and a another tranny code caused the check engine light to come on, but that they could not locate the source of the problem. They said that maybe it was due to loose wires or something from installation and they made sure the wires were tight and sent him on his way.
Any advice or similar problems? Thanks in advance for your replies.

Not sure if this is your friend's problem ... but we have run across this in work on a couple.
Surge or Hesitation at 30 to 60 mph: 9903 Odyssey
On 9903 Odysseys, a sticking EGR valve can
cause the engine to surge or hesitate between
30 and 60 mph. This can easily be mistaken for an
A/T problem. To check for a sticking EGR valve,
do this:
1. Connect the HDS to the 16P data link
connector (DLC).
2. Start the engine, and turn on the HDS.
3. At the screen prompts, enter the VIN and the
odometer reading.
4. From the System Selection Menu screen,
select PGM-FI.
5. From the Mode Menu screen, select Data
List, and then scroll down the list to EGR
VLS.
6. With an assistant test-driving the vehicle
between 30 and 60 mph, watch the voltage
reading in the Value column.
If the voltage reading fluctuates rapidly
when the engine surges or hesitates, or if its
less than 1 volt, replace the EGR valve.
If you cant duplicate the problem, try
running this test when the weather is very
hot. This problem occurs most often in hot
weather.
I might add that an easy way to see if this is indeed the problem ... is to take the vehicle for a ride.
If you feel the hesitation ... pull over and unplug the EGR valve. Go for a ride again and see if that takes care of the problem.
If it does ... replace the EGR valve.

It's possible that transmission is bad too. We had a one in at Honda and it took 3 replacements to finally get a good one.

Thanks for the replies. I will notify him about those things. Hopefully for him it is not the tranny--the dealership sounded pretty adamant that it was not.

All they need to do is pull the code and that will tell them, or your friend is he goes somewhere else, and someone on here can help you out with it...
