Front disk brakes diagnosis question...

Hello,

I have a '98 Ford Ranger with 39,000 miles. Can someone tell me what to look for to find out if I should replace my (front) disc brakes? I took off one of my front tires and the brake pads looks like I have sufficent pad left but the rotors seemed a bit grooved.

Should the rotors be smooth or somewhat grooved?

The rear drum brakes look good and the drums are nice and smooth.

I appreciate any help that someone can give me.

Thanks!

The rotors should be smooth, but normal wear will cause small grooves to be in them. If you are gonna replace the pads, have the rotors machined so the smooth finish is back on them.

Thanks for your insite.

That's what I thought. I guess I'll wait to replace pads and have the rotors machined. If the grooves are just a result of normal wearing,
I might as well get the use of the rest of the pads before I have them replaced.

Have a great day!
