Audi TT-R DTM 2002 (Kit Review)

Hi,

recently someone in this forum (I guess it was Vric) mentioned, a Audi TT DTM would be a nice kit. Well, some years ago I got one and want to show you some photos of the unbuilt kit.

http://www.arcor.de/palb/alben/28/1077928/3162356666666361.jpg

The kit was produced by Rallye Classics in 1:24 (in 2003) and consits of about 100 parts (resin, clear acetet, photoetched parts). I payed 120 Euro for it in a model shop. I don´t know why, but the kit was offered only for a very short time (that is why I guess that only between 50 to 100 models were produced). In the last years I never saw a kit offered in shops or in ebay.

http://www.arcor.de/palb/alben/28/1077928/400_3030613338316563.jpg

All resin parts are cast very clean, no air bubbles.
The parts come with lots of details like brake discs, hoses for air, drinking bottle for the driver including a photoetched holder. The thin slots at the rear end of the wheel wells are resin masterpieces. Decals are thin, sharp and colourful.

Looking at the parts I cannot see negative aspects. The only negative thing with this kit is, that it is not available anymore

Here some more details:

Forget me... I won't say anything... 'm just too occupied to drool !! The kit is amazing... and the car too !

But that's the kind of kit that I would have put far away in the closet... waiting in vain to get my skills improved !

I knew that Rallye Classics (Reji) produced this kit but I never thought I'd see one on AF. What I could never understand was how Reji obviously had the licenses from Audi to produced the kit despite being a small company, while Tamiya don't produce any Audi kits because they are apparently too expensive. I would love to see this years A4 in 1/24 :licka:

Anyway, good luck with the project, I'll be watching this one.

I doubt very much Rally Classics (Reji) paid any licensing fees or got a contract with Audi. This is likely why this kit is impossible to find. I bet production was stopped by Audi's lawyers : (

This kit had been MAYBE casted somewhere in Eastern Europe, but definitely not by REJI! I have a 1/24 Rally Classic kit of the 1999 Alfa 156 European Touring Car Champ. This (excellent) kit was produced in small quantities by a person working for a large French car company! My kit came from www.automobilminiaturen.de and I never saw another kit offered somewhere else.

Hi,

thanks for your comments.
I don´t think I´ll start this kit in the next time, because there are lots of unfinished projects on my table that have to be finished before.

Some facts I heard about Rallye Classics and Reji:

They are 2 different manufactures and have nothing in common.
As I know Reji produced the Skoda and S1, both originally came from Rallye Classics. Maybe he just copied them (because on the first kits came with "RC" signs). No idea if there was an agreement or not, that isn´t interesting here.

@ Spitfire 7 and Kurzheck

Licence problems are everywhere, at the moment a European court is checking about these problems.
It should be clear to car manufacturers, that there is an advantage if their cars are available as models and that a small company like Reji and Rally Classics won´t produce thousands of kits of a model like the f.e. Tamiya or Fujimi.

Yes you are right. Rally Classics is not Reji. Rally Classics is a small (family) production lead by a hungarian men who works for a french car company (I think Peugeot). Reji is a czech company who used to steel models from other companies but nowdays they produce new models like Hyunday WRC and Skoda Fabia WRC.
I saw this Audi model when it was in the developing phase. And yes it is a very nice model, with 2 decal choise (RedBull and Hasselroder)

Man you are so lucky, it looks to be a ripper.
What decals came with the kit?

Hi,

sorry for not answering earlier, but I was in Spain for holiday.

Yes, the kit is again available by nimpex ( http://www.nimpex.de/cgi-bin/shop/front/shop_main.cgi?func=det&wkid=55101336306382416&rub1=Kleinserienmodelle&rub2=&artnr=2432&pn=17&sort=&partnr=RC_2400&all= ) at the moment.

Hi,

well, some time passed and a friend of mine, Sascha Lötters, meanwhile built the kit. Here some fotos of his finished model:

Hi,

we just had a dicussiona about this.

The last DTM series didn´t sell very well, so Tamiya won´t put a foot in this area in the next time.

Ron,

I guess they ship to N/America, but they're possibly a bit late on answering emails. In my experience they're very reliable, but I'm also located in Germany as you may know. Don't know how they will handle overseas payment, I always used Bank Transfer. My last order with Nimpex was a while back...

Other option is probably to contact Reji, as to my knowledge they produced the kit for Rally Classics.

Maybe i will try emailing them again and contacting Reji as well.

I think Tamiya should aim a LITTLE bit for the new series of DTM cars.. the 2005 ones... cause I´m in love with Ekstrom´s Audi A4 :D

Tamiya didn't sell those DTM cars like they'd wished, so they won't start new ones. But looking for one, have a look here :p http://www.nimpex.de/cgi-bin/shop/front/shop_main.cgi?func=det&wkid=1581533745599216&rub1=Kleinserienmodelle&rub2=1:24&artnr=2734&pn=&sort=&partnr=RC_2400&all= Still got that Audi TT DTM 2002 / 2003 Ekström n°5 / Wendlinger n°6 in stock, if you can speak german, and wanna pay 20,- shipping cost.
