1997 Explorer Starting Problem

My 1997 Ford Explorer has an intermittent starting problem. When it starts it's fine, when it doesn't it will turn over but will not catch. I took it to my mechanic and he pulled a spark plug wire and using a spare spark plug (grounded) to checked for spark. This was no spark. Before he could check it further it started working (about 2 hours later). Temperature or time of day seem have no correlation to the problem. The engine is getting gas and when it is running it runs great. I have been told that it could be one (or more) of the follow causes:
1. Crankshaft position sensor is faulty
2. Ignition module is going faulty
Any ideas would be appreciated.

I've had this same problem. I changed the EEC relay (located in the black fuse box under the hood) and so far (one week) the problem has gone away.
