Im stumped, I really dont know how to handle this situation. My stepmom and my dad think that shes a boy, but hes such a girl. No offense girls. This kid is 10, he needs to toughen up some. He prides himself being like 80lbs and is skinny as a rail, like deathly skinny. He whines and screams 24/7 and my stepmom always just lets him get away with it. My dad agrees with me but theres only so much he can do because honestly they arent his kids and the kids dad is constantly trying to get them to live with him anyway, which he is a complete fruitcake too. Damnit how the hell do you toughen up a 10 year old kid. He plays rec baseball, every time he comes back from a game he is "injured" HE NEVER DOES ANYTHING TO HURT HIMSELF! I was there today being the nice guy I was because one of my stepsisters wanted to go by there before I took her to her dance class. He was running from 1st to 2nd base, he was out at second before he was halfway to the base...and somehow he hurt his shoulder in the process. How do you do that? So basically my question is, How do you toughen up a 10 year old kid who is (for lack of a better term) a bitch?

*blinks* That isn't skinny. Back when I was 12-14 I was maybe 5' even and weighed 60lbs. Could open my coat on a windy day and skate across a wet field.
Course, I ate more than most people thought possible and still somehow refused to gain a pound.
I still am that way: 5'8", 140-148 lbs.

If I were you, I'd just ignore his ass, personally I don't see why everyone who has replied has suggested violence or verbal abuse, don't you think he gets enough of that already?

I have to agree with Jet and Oscuro. I didn't break 100lbs until probably 8th grade. But i wasn't ever a pansy though. Got hurt, stiches and cuts plenty of times and just kept going. I'm 23 5'10 and fluctuate b/w 135 and 140. I eat a lot though.

At first I was a bit taken back by the title, thinking it was one of those Hemophradite stories, but its not.

Anyway, the kid is only 10 years old. He is still at a young age. Violence is defintely not the answer in this case. All that will do is traumatize(sp) him and probably damage any chances of proper development. He could be having a emotional problem (the whining, screams) or he could have some sort of muscular problem (hurt his shoulder while running). Maybe he is gay who knows, but hurting him won't be the answer. Talking to him and coming to understand what may be the cause in the first place is a start.

I always say, put yourself in the other persons shoes and try to get a feeling of what their world seems to be. At times you get a sense and a possible solution. Like I said, violence would do worse, and like Oscuro said, it may lead to suicide. :frown: So if you are generally concern for the kid and really want to help out, then do so but resorting to the violence will (at that age and the conditions you described) be bad. Now if he was older like 16-18, then thats another story and harsher methods apply.

Well the only reason he has his whining fits is because he will always get his way if he whines enough. And by skinny...yall have no idea. Its sick really. He doesnt eat much at all either, I dont know why he just doesnt. When he says that hes hurt, he isnt, its for attention. The kid will go outside and kick the soccer ball around or ride his bike for a while and it doesnt hurt him and he is putting a lot more effort into doing those things than when he gets hurt. Not that he actually goes outside much because of those damn video games. Honestly, after having taught 12-14 y/os for the last 4 months, some kids seriously need to be smacked around a little. I'm not talking about abuse, I'm talking about knocking a little sense into them!!! I have a kid whose parents CANNOT see that their child could do any wrong... NONE. Oh, and I would suggest giving the kid some sort of responsibility... It could be based upon behavior, so that if he behaves reasonably (not screaming and throwing tantrums) he gets to keep the responsibility. Otherwise, the responsibility is lost for X amt of time.

I don't know when this became mainstream, but shooting up your school is not the solution to personal problems, It shouldn't even be said as it is the farthest thing from an option. I know it happens, but it's one of those things that shouldn't. Ever.

I don't know where it started, but we're nuturing a generation of pansies. All sorts of laws and restraints in place to keep discipline far from kids. I wish I was brought up stricter, but I turned out pretty good in the end. There's far too many distractions and not enough parenting going on these days.
