Snap, Crackle & Pop

Whats up with my truck. It makes more noises than a bowl of Rice Krispies. Check this out:


Squeeking coils (or something in the front suspension)
Squeeking driveshaft (due to the slip yoke ordeal)
Rattling dash (somewhere around the glove compartment)
Rattling door panels/speakers
Faint tapping behind the instrument cluster (like a baseball card in a bicycle spoke but fainter)
Whistling windsheild
Some kind of wierd ass whistle upon letting off of the accelerator
and finally, A type of rattle or vibration when barely on the accelerator (it seems to be getting worse over time)

Ha! My '02 also has a lot of wind turbulance noise near the base of the windshield.

Yesterday when the techs were on the computer at the dealership, I saw them scroll past a bulletin concerning engine whistle. I didn't pay attention because I don't have that noise. I did see where there is a bulletin on vibrating rattle on light accell that spoke of new style muffler straps to quiet the heat shield. Maybe that is one of your noises?

LoL, that's pretty funny silveradoking. One of these days I'll get around to pinpointing all of them and working them out. Twomorestrokes, I'll check out that heat shield and see if that might be the rattle. I'm not positive on it because I think its coming from closer to the engine compartment. I do have the whistle and its just like when you let off the accelerator after 1/2 throttle or more. Thanks guys for the replys.

The ticking noise behind the dash could be a air vent servo that controls the air flaps for the air conditioner or heater that has a stripped gear and continues to try to close the flap. There are 3 servos, listen to all of them. Just a thought

That is very well a possibility Chevyman... I'll examin it more closely later on. I'm in the process of changing plugs and fuel filter now. Thanks

As for noises...I am definitely a full fledged member of THE CLUNKERADO CLUB.....it seems like every week there is a new tick or squeek to emerge.....just when you think you've run out of places to hear weird noises from......BAM......you get another squeek.....This week I began hearing a ticking sound from the driver's side near the engine......I can't locate the source for the life of me and I can't raise the volume of my radio any higher.........Maybe its coming form my headers......I think some longtubes may help solve that.....LOL.....

Oh oh. Ticking sound just started on mine too, from the driver's side engine area. The rear exhaust manifold bolt head is broken off, creating an exhaust tick. Fun, fun.

I've heard good things about NGK, especially if you're planning on any forced induction or nitrous. AC Delco is what I had before I changed them and they didn't even look like they needed changed with 52k on them. I stuck in some Bosch Platinum and we'll see how those go. Might just wanna look for some good platinum tips.

That was my first impression when I heard that ticking! Either exhaust or intake manifold.. may be my exhaust as well. Good to know.

yeh, I have used the Bosch +4 spark plugs, they are the best.....when you put them in it feels like you get a bit extra power....I know of many people that can say the same thing.....The only downside is that they do not last as long, the NGK's or the ACDelco's.....So if you want extra power and can stand to change the plugs ever 60-70 kilometres, then get the Bosch's....but if you feel like changing them only at over 100,000 kilometres then get the other brands.....
