Thought I was doing good selling my '95 and upgrading to an '02. However, I find myself fixing the same problems I just fixed on the last truck, which was a different body style and engine family. Doesn't GM do any research and solve the reocurring stuff?

Two more issues that are newly discovered:
Exhaust tick cold, lasts about a minute. The left rear exhaust manifold bolt is broken off and the manifold leaks. Looks like I am gonna have to remove the manifold and hopefully the shank will come out of the aluminum head without too much trouble. It's tucked back in a recess in the firewall making it tricky. Bulletin on it I hear. Had to do the same thing on the old 350 (this is a 6.0) and use an angle drill and a good easy out from underneath.
Locking differential shudders on turns after highway driving. good thing it has a drain plug. I'll try servicing and put some additive in it if the shudder is still present.
Any input is welcome.

Are you sure you don`t have the cold start knock these engines are plagued with?

use lucas rear end grease with limited slip additive...good stuff...sounds like you may not have any additive in there right now

I had same rear end shuttering on right turns, after I put in GL-5 hypoid limited slip gear oil 85-90W and the additive, changed to Mobil One synthetic with NO additive and it never gave me any trouble after that. The owners manual says use additive with Limited slip, then a TSB comes out a year later saying not to use the additive in GM limited slips.It's a good thing the customer has no way of accessing TSB's or we might know that information (i'm being sarcastic).

I have that too, but I realize GM piston slap is "normal". No, it's definitely an exhaust tick. There is black carbon around the left rear manifold runner, RIGHT NEXT TO THE MISSING BOLT HEAD. There is a bulletin on it too. New style bolt and gasket. The GMC tech I spoke to says he does a lot of them and pulls the inner fenderwell and front wheel for easier access. Everyone says to not worry about it if it goes away warm, but I've got to fix it. Start putting off repairs and you can get behind quickly.
My diff only shudders on right turns also. The same tech told me to just service it with a high quality lube, calling the additive "snake oil". Always worked in my 9" Fords though.

Actually the additive was originaly whale oil extract (back in the day).Ever hear the saying "they took the tiger out of our tanks and the whales from our tails"?

Correct. Worked good back then too. Wonder if Preperation H would...oh, nevermind. Thats shark oil extract....
