Soda? Pop?
We have Soda water, or Creaming Soda, but everything is pretty much called soft drink, or coke (sometimes if it isn't even coke).

Man, I recon if I went into a shop and asked for some pop, the cops would arrest me for trying to buy illegal substances...

Reminds me of an english bloke who I used to work with, We would get icey poles, and he would call them ice lollies.

Ohh, from South Australia by the way...

I thought the thread was "who likes coke, who likes pepsi?"

I forgot about Soft Drink. I think that's a good universal one. (Still Soda)

On my mother's side of the family, they call it soda. On my father's side, they call it pop. And the majority of them live in Tennessee.

For the first time I heard it, I swore I heard someone say SODA POP...

Soda. "Soft Drinks" too, but nobody actually says that... it's just on restaurant menus and such.

Last month I went to Washington DC for a school thing... schools from all over the country were there. Everyone saying "soda pop" drove me nuts, but the worst were the ones who called it "Coke" no matter the brand. Crazy people, those.

We say it the RIGHT way here.

In Oklahoma it's pop damnit!

Coke is the stupidest thing I've ever heard.
Waitress: "What do you want?"
Kid: "Coke."
Waitress: "Ok what will it be?:
Kid: "Pepsi."

Coke is Coke, Dr. Pepper is Dr. Pepper, and Pepsi is freakin Pepsi.

As for the people calling it Soda you're saying the harder thing. So-da has 2 syllables while pop only has 1. You guys are saying an extra syllable while the right way only has 1.

I'm pretty sure the entire lower part of Michigan calls is pop. (can't be too sure about the U.P., they kinda do their own thing. :screwy: )

This does bring up a good topic (not to hyjack the thread) but me and my friend in Pennsylvania have spent hours discussing the difference in language.

Michigan = something diagonal to you is kitty-corner
Pennsylvania = its katty-corner

MI = a pantry is a cubby hole
PA = its a couby hole

MI = if we are sick, we call in to work
PA = they call off of work

MI = 7:45 PM = quarter to eight
PA = 7:45 PM = quarter of eight (yeah, that one drives me nuts!)

I'd like to see where some of you stand on all these.
