Black smoke would indicate that your car is burning oil. You may have bad O-rings, or even possibly a bad head gasket. You could also be running really rich. Any other symptoms?

Make sure yoou keep an eye on the oil and coolant. If you have a bad head gasket you will have issues develop with the coolant and oil.

Oil being burned usually causes a bluish smoke...it sounds like you're running rich, which means you've got too much fuel getting into the combustion chambers. I'd check for leaky fuel injector(s) and/or fuel pressure regulator.
