Wowsers!! :22yikes:
I assume from your post that it was damaged in an accident of some sort? I sure hope that everyone is ok - I know the F1 is a safe car, but it is also capable of some incredible speeds.
Please share whatever details you can. That's truly unfortunate. :(
Also, I don't recall hearing that this car has ever been wrecked before. It did have that little transmission problem though.

That shop looks like it's dirty and unorganized. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want what looks like people at a "hole in the wall" shop painting my million dollar car. With all the money has why wouldn't he return it to England to have McLaren's paint contractor do the job? Although then again, he did have transmission work done at non-McLaren certified shop, so I guess going to Joe Blow's Redneck paint shop isn't out of the question.
As for a McLaren wearing Ferrari red? Yuck. I think I'd prefer the much overused silver color instead of the enemy's war paint.
BTW, why are the pictures of the McLaren titled as being "Enzo 002.jpg" etc?

Easy guys, easy. Read what i said again before jumping to conclusions.
Too late... :lol2:
Seriously though - you baited us right into that one. :uhoh:
Now after seeing the pics, I'm going to borrow Chris' statement:

Yes, i'm not too keen on red F1's.

Yeah, bright red just doesn't seem right on the McLaren. Why do you need to match an ugly Enzo? Let each car express its own unique personality. The new Ferraris are always in your face and come in screaming yellow and red for the most part. McLarens...ought to be far more classy. Or unique, as in the papaya orange. Their phenomenal reputation and performance precedes them. No need to be vulgar.
I like the blue ones the best.

I think my F1 would most likely be green, like chassis #051 or XP5.
To each their own I say. I'm not personally a fan of the color red, but I think that Cliff Meltzers red #028 looks fairly stunning in that color. Maybe it's just that red is such a unique color on the F1 that it makes it look so nice.
Thanks for the info and photos Will. I do hope you'll be back with some new ones when the car is completed.

Enzo red? I think he has it backward and should be painting his Enzo.. McLaren silver.
Oh well. It's his car... and he has every right to paint it whatever color he wants including eggplant purple.
Given the opportunity, it would be dark silver.
Sometimes these joe blow shops will produce glass paint jobs that will out do most factory paints. I've seen some airline mechanics who've done paintwork on the side as a hobby. These guys take pride in their work and are out to prove that they have concours painting ability.

...lots of things...Well that explains some things =)
But you're saying that McLaren themselves couldn't properly rebuild the transmission?
As for the shop: I see respirators, paint stains, air compressors, and cans in the background. It's obvious paintin has gone on there before. But I believe you that the painting will be done in a proper clean-fume room.

Isn't painting carbon fiber just slightly different than painting metal?

More closer to painting fiberglass or any other epoxy ladened flexible surface. A flex additive is used in most cases.
Please keep in mind, I'm not saying all joe-blow shops are good. Just a few. Granted the normal thing to do is send it back to McLaren for paint.

That's funny you say the Enzo should be painted a McLaren/Mercedes silver. I have a friend who did just that to his Enzo (he got it silver from the factory, it's not a repaint). All his other vehicles are silver too--Diablo, Gallardo, Ferrari 360, 430, Lotus Elise, Benz E55, Audi S8, RS4, Ducati 748 Senna edition (it's dark grey, but close enough). Oh yeah, he has a couple of silver Honda Odyssey minivans too. No McLaren though... :(

Thanks for the pictures Will.
So whatever happened to Beal selling his Enzo? Wasn't it on the market not too long ago?
As for the red paint job, I think Meltzer's car looks great and I can only imagine that Beal's car will as well.

FOr those jumping to conclusions
the shop may not look like much but is his private shop where they have also done a ton of other work on his fleet of exotics. I know Mr B and he is a really nice man who is (and his mechanic is) certified by the F1 team to workd on the car himself as is he for his 2 wd Lamborghini Mercy and his Enzo and a ton of other things

I think it's great that he's doing something different and I have to applaud him for getting rid of the silver; there's just too many. Make mine BRG. If he likes the Ferrari red then so be it.
As for the McLaren-silver Enzo, that's too funny! I only know of one guy who hates Ferrari that much to buy one and paint it like a McLaren-Mercedes. If he had the money, he would do it.

Thanks for those pictures - very interesting.
Look at the second picture, this one:

and tell me that the man doing the work is an artist.
I can't imagine why someone with those exotic cars would allow that kind of thing done to them.
I guess good taste and sense don't automatically come along at the same time as the cash!

I really didn't put this on here for people to talk shit...
Interesting view.
I applaud people who buy a special car and use it as intended - to see and be in an F1 being used properly is fantastic - but to have something special and (apparently) treat it badly seems to me entirely inapropriate.

I guess good taste and sense don't automatically come along at the same time as the cash!I agree with this. What kind of professionally trained shop/mechanic guts a car for painting and leaves the parts sitting loose inside of the cabin...and then leaves random body panels on a concrete floor?
Just the cleanliness of the room where the pictures were taken would scare me if I had a million dollar car and I wanted it painted. Yes, I know it's not being painted in that room, but the car has been gutted and disassembled, with half the parts just sitting loose inside the cabin, and random pieces of the body sitting directly on a concrete floor.
Compare the pictures of McLaren's old shop with the room that Beal's F1 is sitting in in these photos Which facility would you rather take your car to? Without saying anything about the mechanics involved, the cleanliness of a shop tends to reflect the quality of the work that the mechanic/painter does. If I had a McLaren I'd treat it properly and take it to McLaren (or one of the BMW centers authorized to work on the F1.)
I'm not looking to start a war or "talk sh!t" with you Will69Camaro -- I'm only commenting that I'd do things differently if I had a McLaren (i.e. taking it to the McLaren facility or to one of the authorized BMW dealers.)

His mechanic IS authorised to work on the F1...That was part of his buying the F1 is his mechanic because a certified mechanic. I am really displeased with this board and unfortunatly i feel that i wont be posting any more info on beal's F1 due to the negativity that it's been receiving.
